V Las Vegas, Nev*, Aug* 2, 1952* File A-Industrial Trackage Mr.J.W.Padden - Los Angeles cc-Mr JC.C.fcisiiXussen - Los Angelss (file PSFB 2868) MfO.L,Brechin - Riverside /Mr.W *H.Johnson - Las Vegas Referring to previous correspondence, under your file B—5704-1806, concerning proposed trackage to serve Young & Smith Concrete Company, here* As you know, this matter has been held in abeyance by Young 6 Smith pamrijng an adjustment in the rail rate on bulk cement which would justify their use of rail service* Manager Bradley now informs me that his principals are very much concerned about what they feel is an excessive charge for water they purchase from the Las Vegas Land & Water Company and will not be interested in installing trackage until seme downward revision is made* Therm are no water meters here and this concern pays on a monthly basis at rate of 5&1 for each ySard of concrete poured which in June this year amounted to $220.73. Mr.Bradley states they have made some inquiry and find t hat a bottling works pays flat rate of $10 per month and a 20 unit Motel with swimming pool only $54 per monthj further, it is their conclusion they are paying a muds higher rate, proportionately, than any other water user in Las Vegas. Mr. Johnson advises that water tariff rates, including Young & Smith* s, have been prescribed by the Public Service Ccesalsslon, and while he recommended an adjustment in this fim*s rate, our people do not want to file such a request with the Commission until a rate case, involving the Water Company's application for increased rates, now pending in the Courts, is do- cided*
