ESTABLI SHED I BBS C E N T U R Y 2 - 9 0 3 5 V 5 B B O A V A L D N B O U L E V A R D Los A n g e l e s 3 , C a l i f o r n i a February 10, 1946 Mr. Frank Strong Manager-Industrial Development Union Pacific Railroad Co. Los Angeles, California Dear Sir: Referring to our letter of January 10th, submitting guaranteed m a-rim uni proposal of $174*295 for construction of reservoir, settling basin, pipe lines, etc., Las Vegas: Section 3 of our proposal contemplated construction of the line in three sections, each section to be back-filled after testing, and Section 4 contemplated that we would be reimbursed for any additional expense incurred in event water was encountered in pipe line trenches. As you know, we have now encountered considerable water in the trench, requiring extra depth of excavation to accommodate gravel bed under a considerable portion of the line, pumping, shoring, etc., thereby increasing our costs of pipe line work, together with necessity of holding the trench open to observe any settlement of pipe in unstable ground, requiring additional watchman service, protection lights, bridges, etc. for maintaining traffic. We are willing to proceed with the extra work involved upon the understanding that our guaranteed maximum cost will be increased by the sum of $42,990. If the above meets with your approval, will you please arrange for extra work order to cover. Yours very truly, McNEIL CONSTRUCTION CO. L. G. McNeil LGM:ob
