Pipe Company *37 South Hill Street i*oe Angeles* California Dear Clark( Following my letter August 13th regarding an epidemic of broken stem note on gate valvesI Under separate oover X am sending you a stem nut removed from a 6-lnoh Pacific States Cate Valve installed in the Mayfair Addition In 19*1. Xou will note that about one half of the circumference shows an old break* but in addition there are cracks completely encircling the stem, which apparently would have broken if the bottom had not given away. Ve are placing a requisition through Mr, Xeeble for two (2) of the old type J-l stem nute for 19*1 6-lnoh gate valveej and four (*) type J-l stem nuts for 19*7 6-lnoh gate valves, as it was necessary to rob one of the new valves we have on hand in the shop in order to repair the broken one In the Mayfair Addition.
