Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority
Theta Theta Omega Chapter
Issue #1 September 12, 1998
AKA’nomics will be a new feature in TEA ROSE TALK for the next few months. The goal of AKA’nomics is to share resources that will empower sorors economically and will enhance their existing skills as money managers and wealth builders. The program is designed to encourage sorors to:
1.
Assess their money management attitude and current financial plan.
2.
Know that being an informed consumer and wealth builder will bring greater returns.
3.
Acquire and invest in appreciating assets.
The theme of Assessment, Knowledge, and Acquisition of appreciating assets will be prominent in featured articles and proposed lectures. In addition, a gift basket will be raffled at each sorority meeting and will include a variety of wealth building tools designed to promote interest in the AKA’nomics project.
Sorors, you will be asked to complete a short survey at the sorority meeting that will provide direction for the remaining activities and features in the financial planning/wealth building series. The survey will also request your participation as a guest lecturer or your recommendations for speakers with expertise in a particular area. Once the results of the survey are tabulated, a calendar of topics and speakers will be established. Your input is crucial to the success of this program.
Please return your completed survey to Soror Billie Rayford. Thank you.
Ready, Set, SAVE
September’s features will include tools to help assess your money management attitude and establish your net worth. These items will be distributed at the sorority meeting.
“Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to people who prepare for it today” Malcolm X

FIVE THINGS TO DO WITH $50
1. Your Family - To interest your child in saving, make a deal. For every dollar saved, you will match a
dollar. To a child, the idea of saving $50 and having $100 may be just the right motivation for a
lifetime of saving.
2. Your Health - Need to get in shape? Purchase a pair of good walking shoes and some sweatpants
and off you go!
3. Your Auto - Today’s preventive measures - rotating the tires, changing the oil, having the brakes
checked 8can save a bundle in repairs down the road.
4. Your Finances - Pay down a credit card with a high interest rate and you will earn a higher return
on your $50 than if you put it in the bank.
5. Your Finances - Consider a membership in the American Association of Individual Investors, which
publishes ten monthly news journals on how to make investments, portfolio strategies and
financial planning tips. Annual membership is $49. Call 800-426-2244
