She line was last tested about two weeks ago and stood the pressure for about 48 hrs# without evidence of leaking, then/'without any apparent reason an eruption occurred about SO feet in length at the lower end of the pipe which allowed the water to escape at such volume that it 2*hd to be shut off# V/o have not removed the concrete Jacket to determine Just hoik sjferious the eruption is but I am told that a wire can be passed entirely through the pipe* I have decided to abandon about 5,000 ft* of the line as hopeless for I am convinced that it can not be made to withstand the pressure to which it will bo subject­ed# I am confident the pipe sold us is just ordinary sewer pipe and not safe with pressure in excess of 15 pounds* Shortly after Mr* Lanforth’s visit three bents were placed in the line and were in use at the time of the last test* X think the Pipe Go* in fairness to our Company should refund the amount paid for the 5,000 feet of line which we are compelled to abandon and if later it should develops the line will not withstand the pressure of 15 pounds and necessary to abandon more of the line v/o should receive refund for the amount abandoned* lours truly, m/t© §g | Jliff Chief Engineer
