la s Vegas - May 13th, 1936 R - ll & / Mr. F. H. Knickerbocker, General Manager, Los Angeles, C aliforn ia. Dear Sir B&B Supervisor George Wilson and I spent part of the morning on inspection of the pipe line from roundhouse to springs, reservoir and settlin g basin. Ihe yard section men have about completed cleaning on both sides of the old wooden pipe lin e , which is a very satisfactory job, eliminating danger of fir e . At the reservoir we found the spillway dry, as it has been every day for the past month, and in measuring we found about 10 feet of water in the reservoir, which w ill lik e ly be reduced to about h alf that amount by this evening. We w ill, of course, regain the depletion of this supply during the night, but I believe at this time we should again start the pump at the roundhouse, pumping into the city mains as we did la st year, and i f you approve of this action, I w ill attend to it at once. At the settlin g basin, we found, as usual, where some of the malicious boys have cut the roofing and mashed a large hole about three feet square through the roof, in order to use the settlin g basin for a swimming hole. Mr. Wilson advises approval has been made for re-roofing the settlin g basin, but with paper roofing. Y/ould it not be possible to change this specification and roof the settling basin with sheet iron? In that way, it would prevent their cutting through the roof and would be a means of protection and much better than replacing in kind. We are lucky, inasmuch as these boys have le f t both the covered springs unmolested as yet, and by an almost d aily trip up there we may be able to prevent some of their depredations. Should you approve the change of the roofing specific a tio n s, from paper to sheet iron, w ill you kindly so advise the Chief Engineer, as I understood from Mr. Wilson they were contemplating prosecution of th is work at once. cc - Mr. R. L. Adamson, Mir. George Wilson.
