This being the time set for the opening of bids for furnishing tires and tubes to the City, bids were received from the following firms: BILL WERNER U. S. TIRE SUPPLY SUPERIOR TIRE INC. Commissioner Bunker moved the foregoing bids be referred to the City Manager for tabulation and recommendation. Motion seconded by Commissioner Sharp and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. At this time Director of Public Works George E. Wade recommended that the improvements in Assessment District No. 100-23 be accepted and that the 10% retention in the amount of $17,266.02 be paid to the contractor, Wells-Cargo, Inc. Thereafter Commissioner Whipple moved the improvements in Assessment District No. 100-23 be accepted and final payment in the amount of $17,266.02 be approved and signature of the warrant authorized. Motion seconded by Commissioner Sharp and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. Director of Public Works George E. Wade advised the Commission that bids had been received from four firms for the installation of paving on "A" Street from Oakey to Boston. Mr. Wade stated that these bids include the paving, curbs and gutters and a 15" storm drain from "A" to Main Street, and said bids are as follows: LONGLEY CONSTRUCTION $18,294.00 WELLS CARGO 19,076.78 PAHLEEN CONSTRUCTION 20,986.00 WELLS STEWART 17,576.89 Mr. Wade recommended that the bid of Wells Stewart which is $12,637.89 for paving improvement and $4,939.00 for installation of the storm drain be accepted. He further recommended that only the paving be done at this time. Commissioner Sharp moved this matter be continued until the Engineering Department can make a study to determine the cost of building the street up to grade rather than installing a storm drain. Motion seconded by Commissioner Bunker and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. Commissioner Bunker moved the application of C. R. Millhizer for license for two slot machines at the Shoe Center, 1312 "D" Street for the fourth quarter of 1955 be approved. Motion seconded by Commissioner Sharp and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. Commissioner Whipple moved the resolution authorizing the publication of the notice to bid on the installation of improvements in Assessment District No. 1OO-36, adopted at the regular meeting held September 21, 1955, be rescinded. Motion seconded by Commissioner Fountain and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. Commissioner Whipple moved the resolution authorizing the publication of the notice to bid on the installation of improvements in Assessment District No. 200-17, adopted at the regular meeting held September 21, 1955, he rescinded. Motion seconded by Commissioner Fountain and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. Commissioner Sharp moved the City Attorney be instructed to prepare a resolution commending the Junior Chamber of Commerce on the fine service performed in sponsoring the County Fair. Motion seconded by Commissioner Bunker and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. Commissioner Sharp moved the Planning Commission be instructed to study the area on West Charleston Boulevard from Shadow Lane to the intersection of Rancho Road to determine whether or not this property should be rezoned.
