FRI^AJFtS CLUB CHARITY FOUNDATION 9900 Santa Monica Blvd., Beverly Hills, California 90212 / 273-0850 ?╟≤ 878-1375 May 1, 1969 Gentlemen: On Sunday evening, October 5, 1969, the Friars Club of California, in conjunction with AGVA International, Actors Guild Variety Artists, is honoring one of the most beloved entertainers in America, one of the most humanitarian persons, a man who has practically devoted most of his time and energy to charity. Besides being busy with all this work, and still very active in the entertainment world, he devotes a major part of his time as President of AGVA. None other than Dannv Thomas. This will be a black tie dinner which will be held in the International Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel. We will announce the names of the persons that will appear on the dais at a later date, but we can promise you that you will have one of the great star-studded platforms that you will remember. Everyone connected with charity knows that cost of food and overhead for a big dinner takes a big bite out of the seat sales. In order, therefore, for us to make this a successful promotion we must depend greatly on the income from the Journal that we are going to publish in conjunction with this Testimonial Dinner. For people that are not familiar with AGVA, this is a branch of entertainers in show business that are always having difficulty meeting their demands for members that are unable to perform due to old age and illness. AGVA is one of the oldest organizations of show business, and probably the poorest as far as their treasury is concerned. This is the first time they ever combined with any other organization to raise funds. They picked the Friars Club of California to be their partner as they know there is no greater organization, and they have done so much for us in the past. We realize that everyone has his pet charity, but remember there cannot be any greater cause than this. Remember, entertainers have given their services over the years to all good causes. Now it is about time we can show our gratitude. Their needs are urgent. Let's show them how much we appreciated their contribution in the past and present by giving a little more than we ordinarily would give. Attached is a blank advertising form. Please fill it out; it is a very simple form. Attach check if possible, or if you want us to bill you indicate such. But please, do not lay this aside. This is tax deductible. Make checks payable to Friars C^ub Charity Foundation. /o s~ Jk/Jk/ t/fahjJ (/ .
