February 4, 1994 TO: Federation Presidents and Executives FROM: Maynard I. Wishner, President Martin S. Kraar, Executive Vice President At the Board of Delegates meeting in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and by satellite and conference call, the Federations overwhelmingly approved in principle the one-year collective funding of $850,000 in special grants for the support of Jewish university student services (1994-95). It further authorized CJF to develop appropriate future funding measures to adequately and equitably fund the college services operations for submission at the November General Assembly. The official resolutions as adopted are attached to this memo as is the specific dollar share being asked of each Federation. We refer you to the Task Force on Jewish University Student Services Interim Report for a complete presentation of the findings, conclusions and recommendations that were the basis for the action taken at the Board of Delegates meeting. While the action taken was in principle, we would hope that every Federation will act expeditiously to process the request within the next 60 days. This will permit the national Hillel system to continue its program which is primarily directed to campuses throughout the U.S. and avert the potential of major funding shortfalls. The funds requested will sustain the current level of services of the Hillel system. We urge your processing this request and speedy approval of the matter so that the funds will be available July 1, 1994. In addition to the funding measures, we draw your attention to a number of programmatic recommendations made by the Task Force and urge your full consideration and action to enable the vision to become reality. Please return the attached to the CJF office indicating where matters currently stand and whether CJF can be helpful to you in facilitating the process. MIW/MSK:dw Attachment r f JEWISH UNIVERSITY STUDENT SERVICES RESOLUTIONS APPROVED BY THE CJF BOARD OF DELEGATES FEBRUARY 1. 1994 To approve in principle the Phase 2 (1994-95) funding proposal of $850,000 in special Grants for Support of Jewish University Student Services; and to authorize the Council of Jewish Federations to proceed with funding requests to the professionally directed Federations in the United States with each being asked to take its share based on the CJF dues formula, with the exception of New York, which will be asked to assume $155,000 of the funding. To authorize CJF to take the next step to develop appropriate funding measures to adequately and equitably fund the college services operation; such plan to be presented for action by the Federations at the 1994 General Assembly. \wp3\campus\studsrv2.res REQUESTED FEDERATION SPECIAL GRANTS FOR SUPPORT OF JEWISH UNIVERSITY STUDENT SERVICES 1994-1995 SHARE CITY OF 850.000 <$) AKRON 3,046 ALBUQUERQUE 1,180 ARKANSAS 552 ASHEVILLE 572 ATLANTA 12,914 ATLANTIC COUNTY 3,750 AUGUSTA 635 AUSTIN 1,190 BALTIMORE 17,162 BATON ROUGE 705 BERGEN COUNTY 10,991 BERKSHIRES 1,337 BIRMINGHAM 3,723 BOSTON 18,013 BRIDGEPORT 2,719 BUFFALO 5,615 CANTON 1,630 CENTRAL KENTUCKY 380 CENTRAL N.J. 6,886 CHAMPAIGN-URBANA 481 CHARLESTON,SC 1,583 CHARLOTTE 2,111 CHATTANOOGA 1,405 CHICAGO 26,421 CINCINNATI 8,545 CLEVELAND 17,012 CLIFTON/PASS AIC 2,859 COLLIER COUNTY 853 COLORADO 8,179 COLUMBIA 1,156 COLUMBUS, OH 7,750 CUMBERLAND CTY 1,210 DALLAS 9,028 DANBURY 883 DAYTON 3,378 DELAWARE 2,639 DES MOINES 2,102 DETROIT 18,364 DURHAM-CHAPEL HILL 239 Page 1 SHARE CITY OF 850.000 <$> DUTCHESS COUNTY 1,240 EAST BAY 6,154 EASTERN CONNECTICUT 1,224 EL PASO 1,448 ELMIRA 259 FLINT 1,377 FORT WAYNE 821 FORT WORTH 1,634 FT.
