1 by mark tan Producer-entertainment director Alan Lee?╟╓s all new edition of the: ?╟úFolies Bergere?╟Ñ is- at long last - a superspectacle that : can be coped with. It?╟╓s big, lavish & gorgeously mounted; better still it?╟╓s designed to show off people & talent rather than u n controllable fires & floods, earthquakes, hurricanes -and enough electnc elriergy to light Den ver ^ Each type superspectacular has its place in the Las Vegas lineup of audience | stunners, the new ?Folies ; Bergere?╟Ñt will have its own; place as a special kind of spectacleJ nightly in the Tiffany Theatre of the Tropicana Hotel. To begin with, the Folies?╟Ñ as conceived .directed and choreographed Py the brilliant young Jerry Jackson, has ah, intelligently ^coordinated theme W~Rs parades of glitter, glamorous costumes and beautiful1 ^dancers & showgirls. fiA" Salute?╟╓ to the Music Hall from 1775 to 1975?╟Ñ is presented in film, tableau, pantomime, acrobatics, etc. in some nine, elaborate production sequences! Each production, a faithful & complete recreation of a Music Hall era or kind M entertainment, features solo or ensemble performers that cap be seen & heard on their indiviual merit. The ?╟úFolies?╟Ñ ?╟ maintains an unusual degree of intimacy, warmth, audience rapport and enormous vitality. Make no mistake, however, the "^Folies?╟Ñ is also spectacularly ^outstanding and certainly one of the brightest new musical stars on the show business horizon. Vest has such elan, style & effortless Presence, his each appearance (and he?╟╓s featured throughout the show) is a new delight. Buddy?╟╓s solo Jazz 1920 song* and dance number is one of several highlights. Lead dancer of the show is billed (Continued on Page 15) ?╟≤ : ?√ß~?╜ude, when appropriate, or sumptuously costumed as warranted. The sets by William Morris are as lovely to look at as they are an ill folies:. 7 : (Continued from Page 6) simply Janelle and is a raven haired beauty whose dancing I artistry is reminiscent of I Cyd Charisse & Leslie Caron. Featured as the gun moll beauty of gangster Carl Wallace, starcrossed with her adagio partner Dan Parker, Janelle is an actress-dancer of impressive range. Janelle & Parker are also solo-ed in a recreation of Fragonard?╟╓s Swing, circa 1775 and as The Statue & The Prince in the Royal Forest ballet. Singers Sheila Simone and Maggie White, and Carl Lindstrom & Carl Wallace are each given a solo share of the vocals. Voluptuous beauties Marya Linero & Diane Adams are also featured in the ?╟úFolies?╟Ñ promenade & productions with the Tropicana dancers & mannequins. Les Tropicana Acrobats ?╟÷ a fleet & often flying ensemble of fifteen young men & women ?╟÷ and featuring the astonishing Ron Clemmer |g|?|?║provide both a new dimension to specatacle specialty acts and several of the ?╟úFolies?╟Ñ most breathtaking showstopping moments. In an all acrobatic prod uction called Les Acrobats 1960, Clemmer and company bring the audience to a roar with their high stlye leaps, spins and in-space twirls. Stars of the new ?╟úFolies?╟Ñ is the pulverizing pandemonium of Rip Taylor, the C r y i n ?╟╓ Comedian, who rams some 40 minutes of .material, jokes, dances, songs, bits, impressions, weeping, wailing and raging, into a tight twenty minute star placed segment. Taylor who has a gigantic Las Vegas following, is at his battiest, maddest and most hilarious when he throws his act to the wind and takes to ad libbing, kibitzing and berating the audience with his zany problems, nonsensical props, and off the wall musical parodies. Taylor?╟╓s wardrobe of re charged glitter, rhinestones, tinsel, furs and bugle beads that almost blare, add to the wildly ?╟÷ but cleverly controlled ?╟÷ unpredictable terrain of his routines. Rip?╟╓s closing song ?╟úIt?╟╓s Not How You Start but How You Finish?╟Ñ signals the start of the all cast finale, feather and frocked to a fare thee well.
