E^tfiM. 3{aiz July 19, 1988 Professor Jan Karski School of Foreign Service Georgetown University 37th and 0 Streets Washington, D.C. 20057 Dear Professor Karski: T his letter should have been written about three years ago. We met four years ago at a Scholars Confercence in Philadelphia that had been arranged by the Littells. As a matter of fact, I was thrilled to find myself sitting next to you on the dais at one of the dinners. Your name and work were familiar to me. We talked about my friend, the Polish nun whose mother had been killed by the Nazis for saving Jewish children and you were kind enough to send her a message in Polish on my tape recorder. She was delighted to hear your voice and your message. For some reason the recording of your speech at that con-ference was never transcribed, but you were kind enough to send me a copy of your book THE SECRET STATE instead. I keep it in my library at home and loan it out carefully to only reliable friends. I never thanked you for your thoughtfulness because for almost a year I did not know it had arrived. The book was addressed to my office and no one bothered to tell me about it for sometime. My secretary assumed it was one of the many books I had ordered for the Holocaust Library at the Jewish Federation. And now I've met you again through the article in THE WASHINGTONIAN. I've had the article zeroxed and have been passing It around to friends and teachers in Las Vegas. Our s t a t e of N e v a d a has an excellent curriculum guide on teaching the subject of the Holocaust and has developed a good reputation for the interest our educators are showing. As a matter of fact, we expect Franklin and Marci Littell here during the end of August to help us plan a Scholars Conference at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas. I hope it's never too late to say "Thank you for the precious book." And I hope this finds you in good health.
