Page 2 WHEEL OF ROTARY APRIL 22. 1950 TODAY'S PROGRAM Our program for today will in-clude a panel of speakers, to lie in-troduced "by Carl Hyde. The subject of discussion will "be that vital one of employer-employee relations, with especial attention to the Nevada Citizens' Committee, which is receiving so much attention thru-out the State. * * * * * * * LAST WEEK Cal Cory, Las Vegas boy who ac-companied Senator Pat McCarran on his tour of Europe, was guest speaker last week. He devoted himself largely to a discussion of the economic condition of the major European countries and of the necessity of continuing the cur> rent European Relief program as a means of keeping them out of the grasp of the Communists. * * * * * * * TEX BLACKMAN SPOKE The guest speaker at yesterday's meeting of Boulder City Rotary Club was Tex Blackman. He spoke on the em-ployer- employee relations and the Nevada Citizens' Committee as organ-ized throughout the State. Other Las Vegas Rotarians attend-ing the Boulder City meeting yesterday were "Jim Shaver and Jim Irvin. PHOENIX MEETING The attendance at the Pnoenix meeting last Friday was very disap-pointing to the Phoenix Club and even more so to President Leonard of Las Vegas Rotary. Those attending were President Leonard and Anna Fayle, Max Kelch, Vern Willis and Allye Lawson. Max Kelch put on an excellent program, and according to those present, "really laid 'em in the aisles" with his boosting of the Las Vegas area. He also gave an explanation of the manner in which our "live Wire Fund" is operated. ******* A PAID MESSAGE Dick Clough was thoughtful enough to send the following (not collect) telegram to his Thursday hitchhikders: "Will not be there Thursday. Am checking on Jim Shaver's book stores on Main Street" (Los Angeles). * * * * * * * SYMPATHY The sympathy of all our mem-bers goes out to Mrs. Leo A . Mc-namee, whose mother, Mrs, McChrys-tal, passed away early in the week, and to all members of the McNamee family. Mrs.McChrystal had long been a prominent Las Vegas woman and she leaves many friends to mourn her passing. You fellows visiting Southern California for any reason at all, please call on Ken. QUARTER CENTURY AGO On April 16, 1925, Las Vegas Rotary Club was enthused because they had on that date achieved a 100$ attendance. On that day James Cashman in-troduced Highway Engineer C. C. Boyer as speaker of the day. Mr. Boyer gave a most inter-esting talk on development of highway "building, from the earli-est historic times down to the present date. The discussion was particularly appropriate because at that time the paving of Fremont Street was under way, a project for which Las Vegas had been fighting for several years. *** Another item of interest in the early months of 1925, was the Calling of a Grand Jury, on which we note the following Rotarians or members of their families: Ed Clark, Dr. Em. S. Park, Mrs. Isabel McChrystal, W. S. Ferron, W. R. Bracken, W. H. Pike, Sam Laws on, Harry Blanding and Mrs. C. P. Squires. £as 'Veqas Hoiarij Club Hosier Adcock, Oren K i n g "O.K."
