Theta Theta Omega Chapter Program Report - December 1, 2001 Submitted by Soror Billie RayfordAs a member of Theta Theta Omega Chapter, you approved and supported a tremendous program for the year 2001. I would like to give you a brief overview of the chapter's accomplishments for the year.J Vie started the year with a beautiful entry in the Martin Luther King Parade.J Once the MLK "fun run" was completed, efforts then focused on the fourth annual Mardi Gras celebration where 300+ guests viewed our first Mardi Gras souvenir booklet and supported our major fund-raising effort.J The proceeds from Mardi Gras and the second annual Juneteenth celebration allowed the chapter to distribute $3500 in scholarships to local graduating seniors.J At the 2001 Founders Day program, two hundred thirty sorors and guests joined Theta Theta Omega and Kappa Xi chapters as we commemorated the legacy of our founders, celebrated the accomplishments of our great sisterhood, and heard the inspiring words of past Supreme Anti-Basileus and Grammateus Rosalind Griffin of Detroit, Michigan at the beautiful Paiute Golf Resort. Theta Theta Omega and Kappa Xi chaptersJ Do we support ON TRACK? You bet we do. The fifth grade class at H. P. Fitzgerald Elementary delighted in the activities of the multicultural arts festival that included activities to celebrate the history of jazz, poetry, writing with storybooks, along with an arts and crafts activity made especially for MOM. Kindergarteners had a "bootiful" time at their Halloween bash. The distribution of books and enrichment materials were funded through a School-to-Work grant, donations from publishers and chapter members.J Children from the community "took to the friendly skies" as they were introduced to the world of aviation through a collaborative with the Tuskegee Airmen, the Experimental Aviation Association, and United Airlines. Theta Theta Omega was responsible for involving over 100 children in the Inspiration and Young Eagles Flights. The chapter was recognized in the national newsletter of the Tuskegee Airmen.Z We celebrated Black Dollar Days, the Twenty Pearls Investment Club became a reality, and the community will join a dynamic roster of financial and legal professionals at the third annual Money Matters seminar on December 8, 2001.Z The focus on leadership development continues. Members have actively participated in the leadership modules, the chapter operations workshop, cluster, and regional conference activities. Not only are Theta Theta Omega and Kappa Xi members in attendance at the local and regional levels, workshop presenters from each chapter received rave reviews for their presentations during cluster and regional conference activities. Thanks to the support of our Far Western Regional Director Soror Diana Shipley, Theta Theta Omega now has a strong presence at the regional level. As we plan for Leadership Seminar 2003 and Regional Conference 2005 in Las Vegas, your support will be crucial.Z Our standards committee provided the direction to improve chapter operations. The chapter incorporated recommendations of the Audit Committee into operational procedures. The chapter adopted revisions in the By-Laws and a Manual of Standard Operations.
J Public policy issues were addressed through the Connections Committee. Theta Theta Omega organized and participated in registrar of voters training, AKA Day at the Capitol, and "So You Want to Run for Public Office Workshop."
V The Publicity Committee launched a chapter website. Thanks to the efforts of the Ivy Leaf Reporter, articles on Theta Theta Omega programs and sorors appeared in the last four issues of the /vy Leaf.
J The Membership and Hospitality Committees keep us bonded as a chapter. We enjoy monthly treats in recognition of birthdays, anniversaries, and personal celebrations. Sorors are right there to provide the strength and encouragement in times of need.
J Members thoroughly enjoyed the Summer Cooler, Chapter Retreat, and had a grand time as we welcomed seven new sorors to the sisterhood. We are also proud that six sorors transferred to Theta Theta Omega and three reactivated at the Boule level. The AKA Teens program continues to gain momentum. Participants are active in community service projects, leadership development activities, fund raising efforts, and community partnerships targeting youth.
J Who can forget the efforts of the Graduate Advisor's Task Force as members joined the AIDS for Southern Nevada Fun Walk, assisted in the undergraduate mentoring program, supported the Undergraduate Week and MIP activities. Theta Theta Omega members beamed as Kappa Xi members were recognized for academic excellence at campus recognition activities.
J The Music Committee brought lovely melodies to our hearts.
J Thanks to the efforts of our Nominating Committee, the chapter had a dynamic slate of officers from which to choose. The Tellers Committee validated results of the various elections. Thank you for keeping the integrity of the elections process.
J Weren't we on top of the world when the chapter achieved the doctoral level in the Educational Advancement Foundation efforts and NBLIC Health Program was awarded the first annual Cornelia Banks Health Award at the Far Western Regional Conference? We can also give accolades to the NBLIC/Health Committee for bringing the Supreme Basileus and Far Western Regional Director to the third annual Health Forum. We look forward to supporting the new Sudden Infant Death Syndrome initiative.
Also at the Regional Conference, the chapter scrapbook won second place. Theta Theta Omega sorors were awarded second place ribbons for entries in the poetry, arts and crafts, and the Ida L. Jackson Award categories.
J Thanks to the generosity of chapter members, twenty-two families received Thanksgiving baskets, and eighty coats were donated to local charities for AKA Coat Day. For the newly implemented AKA Make A Difference Day program, Theta Theta Omega received a $700 donation credit for items donated to the local Shade Tree Homeless Shelter. Plans are now underway to support the Senior Citizens Project.
J As we close the year and celebrate our accomplishments, we look forward to seeing you at the Theta Theta Omega Christmas Party at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 22, 2001.
