This way of life would be unacceptable to you. Yet this is the reality for many Israeli citizens in towns like Sderot and Ashkelon, who each day face the very real possibility that their homes, businesses, markets, schools, roads, or power lines will be hit by rockets incoming from the Gaza Strip. Since Israeli forces withdrew from Gaza in 2005, more than 4,000 rockets and mortar shells have been fired at Israel from Gaza by Hamas and other terrorist organizations. At least ten percent of these have been fired since January 1st of this year. Just yesterday, Ynetnews journalist Shmulik Hadad reported that two rockets landed in Sderot's industrial zone, damaging two factories and injuring workers. The launching of the rockets by Hamas is made possible by the support of the Iranian and Syrian Governments, using rockets and human resources often smuggled through Egypt. Thus, this is hardly just an "internal" matter. We urge you to cosponsor this resolution to condemn the ongoing rocket attacks and to support the efforts of Israel to defend its territory.
