Referring to my mailgram of August the 2nd replying to your wire A-9 5 advising that impeller shaft of new fire pump at has Vegas twisted in two. Mr. J.P. Karris of the Worthington Pump Oorpn. called on the •phone today and advised they have reoeived both parts of the broken shaft and the entire rotating element. .They have made a new shaft and have tested out this shaft and the rotating element which is in correct operating condition and is ready for installation at Las Vegas. Mr. Harris re­quests that you have a truck pick up these parts at their plant at 5^75 South Santa Pe Avenue. Truck should enter on 51st Street and go to the "pick-up" room. Mr. Karris requests that Mr. Anderson and his fore­man be very careful to see that the coupling is in line when the shaft and rotating element are installed. It is their opinion that this coupling was out of line at the time pump was installed and they believe that when you check this care­fully you will find that the coupling is still out of line and should be adjusted and lined up) otherwise, this new shaft will twist in two almost at once. I therefore suggest that Mr. Anderson give this matter his personal attention. The above confirms telephone conversation with your office today. FRANK STRONG AUG ^30 1944 I
