Bennett - Los Angeles Attached is copy of exchange of correspondence between the Nevada Public Service Commission and Young & Smith Ready Mix Concrete Company. Several months ago Young & Smith, operators of a transit mix plant at Wyoming Avenue and Industrial Road, Las Vegas, requested advice as to water rates. As there was no classification for this type of operation I advised them the only similar class!~ fication was concrete work for which the then established rate was 4 .0^ per cubic yard of concrete. This, under recently approved schedules was increased to 5.5^ per cubic yard. Young & Smith considered the rate excessive and after some discussion I suggested in my letter of April 19, 1951 to Mr. Renwick, a new classification be added to our application for increased rates as follows: TransiUtp Mtoi x Plan1t0s00 c.y. per month $10.00 1000 to 2500 c.y. per month 20.00 Over 2500 c.y. per month 30.00 Which rates would return approximately 20^ per 1000 gallons. Our annual average return for all classes of service under the old schedule was approximately 6.0^ per 1000 gallons and under the new schedule approximately 7.0^. During the month of October, Young & Smith processed 2267 cubic yards of transit mix concrete which at 5.5^ resulted in a charge of $124.67. Based on 40 gallons of water per cubic yard of concrete, their consumption approximated 90,000 gallons of water or an average cost of $1.38 per 1000 gallons.
