It's beauty, grace and comedy on the rocks in this, the 25th year of "Holiday on Ice." Tn these days of "X" and "R" entertainment and violence it's refreshing to see whole f ami les laughing and clapping their hands, the kids' eyes shining with glee as they watch this 2%-hour extravaganza. The silver anniversary performance opens with Ben Stabler conducting a first class local orchestra. The rink in Miami Beach Convention Hall fills up with men and girls in silver costumes and skates flashing. Then Linda Sowell, taking over for Grete Borgen, who's idle while a broken leg mends, glides onto the ice and does spins and leaps. Tommy Allen and Juanita Percelly, husband-aud-wife, whiz over the ice performing intricate maneuvers and splits. They stopped the show. The Cook family, 10- year-old Kim and her two brothers Kris and Kelly and their mama and daddy are something to behold, Little Kim skates like a veteran and you're looking at a star of the future. Ronnie Robertson's spins make you dizzy. Alice Quessy and Ray Balmer and Marie Langenbein are brilliant, specialists in solo, team and leading production numbers. Alfredo Mendo/o and John Ladue are back with the hound dawg number, a good comedy routine. Another nifty comedy hit is by Paul Andre and Johnny loec'i. In ice show parlance anybody not on skates is a "dry" act and "Holiday" has (wo in I h I s class that had the packed house of 7,184 roaring with laughter. Werner and Denise Muller have three chimpanzees that skate, play erack-the-whip, tumble and are natural clowns. But the real show- bandits are Kossmayer's mules, a couple of ornery critters. It's an audience participation thing with those who dare invited to try to ride the mules. Karl Koasmayer* the ringmaster, Is a Dutch comedian himself and he wrings every drop of laughter from his audience. It's the highlight of the show.
