She briefly discussed the forthcoming November Conference for the benefit of the new members of this Committee. Karla McComb of the School District will be in char ge of working with other people from the District regarding panel sessions and invitees. Most of the invitees will be teachers from social study and history classes from Senior and Junior High Schools, plus Parochial schools. The Holocaust Studies will become a part of the World History program in the schools. Fred Lewis with Summa Corporation will sponsor dinner at the Conference and will let us know at which hotel it will be held. At the dinner, each table will have a " survivor" present. In addition to thos e now living here in Las Vegas, we will bring in some from Los Angeles. Possible cost for each person coming from L.A. will be $200 ... though hotel room will be at a special rate. Aleda Nelson mentioned the possibility that NCCJ could help sponsor part of the Conference . The suggestion was made to apply for a Grant for monies needed to put on this Conference .... Edythe Katz, Eileen Kollins and Ruth Hanusa will work a long with Aleda Nelson. Myrna Williams mentioned applying for a grant through Dorothy Ritenauer at the Humanities Department. Deadline for grant applications is September 30. Myrna also suggested contacting Gary Roberts, State Director of the Nevada Historical Society, who may have information on the Holocaust. Myrna also stressed the importance of the correct wording for the grant. In orde r to he lp defray other costs, Elaine Steinberg offered to have a fund-raiser at her home . A possible date of October 9 was set .... Stan Goetz from the "1939" Club in L.A. would be the guest speaker. Plans for this will be made by Elaine, Naomi and Aleda. Holocaust Education Committee September 4, 1980 Naomi Cherry reported that the pictures from the Library Show are being framed .. ... there are 19 pictures ??. possible cost of this will be approx. $1500. Edythe talked about planning another day in Los Angeles for members of this committee to visit the Simon Wiesenthal Center and Martyrs Memorial. Possible dates for this could be sometime during the week of September 22 to 28. Edythe was pleased to announce the establishment of an Endowment Fund to set up the Holocaust Resource Library.
