i; Follies opens with PROCLAMATION, sung by Chuck Nelson. In PROCLAMATION, Chuck recalls the old Ziegfeld Follies, singing the narration of how Ziegfeld integrated great hit tunes and beautiful girls to effect lavish Follies shows. Chuck sings: His shows were grand He wrote the book In his productions Flo Ziegfeld took Sweet pollyannas And Top Bananas and that made "Whoopee." Ziegfeld Girls Genie Stone and Betty Taylor assist with phrases of tunes made famous by the old Follies productions . With 20 beautiful girls brought onstage by the PROCLAMATION, the company swings into a new hit tune by Sid Kuller and Lyn Murray called "I111 Go For A Beautiful Girl," Here's a sample of what Chuck sings as the Ziegfeld Girls dance and parade: Here we appear in the year 195^ Half a centuryfs passed - plus k years more Mankind has covered itself with scientific glory Man keeps movin* ?╟÷ what's he provin1 Let's take inventory. Man has conquered time and space The atom is no mystery Man has won the "H" bomb race The end result is history. Every obstacle's dispelled Our progress is dynamic Man is flying jet propelled In rocket ships titanic. Let these miracles be what they may If Ziegfeld were living today Here is what he would say. And the chorus of 20 Ziegfeld Girls chimes in to sing: An atomic reaction Has not the attraction You'll find in a beautiful girl. Now space-ships are steel things But I go for real things Like dimples and curves and a curl. You can place your reliance On Physics and Science I'll go for a beautiful girl. -more- 1!
