Maag) Further in reference to my letter of February 11th to Mr, Bates, copy to you, suggesting that a survey be made of the location of the various water lines which will be conveyed to the District so that Mr. Bates can furnish descriptions for use in granting easements to the District for the construction, maintenance and op­eration of linesi In having a survey made X think you should have the engineering party make a record of the location of all Improvements within ten feet on either side of the pipe lines or the locations for proposed pipe lines. This will enable us to know what improvements to make the easements subject to so that we can protect the contin­ued operation and maintenance of such Improvements by the Railroad, In some cases it may not be desirable to use a center-line description so the survey should be made so that Mr, Bates can draw a metes and bounds des­cription of the easement area if desirable. I have in mind that in some instances the pipe lines are near railroad tracks, and we should avoid, if possible, hav­ing the easement area coincide with the necessary right of way for our tracks. I notified Mr. James M, Montgomery that a survey of the location of the proposed and present pipe lines would be made, and he may desire to keep in touch with you while the survey is in progress. S.
