C. &rading and Stacking All grading in the vicinity of trench excavations shall be controlled to prevent surface water from flowing in trench. Any water accumulated in trench shall be removed by pumping or approved method, D, Shoring and.Sheeting All shoring and sheeting required to perform and orotect the excavation. II. Existing Utilities Systems Existing utility systems shall be protected from damage during the excavation and backfilling of trenches and if damaged shall be repaired by the contractor at his own expense. III. Backfilling The trenches shall not be backfilled until all re-cuired tests are performed. The trenches shall be carefully backfilled with materials approved by City Inspector for back­filling. Backfilling shall be thoroughly and carefully placed and rammed in 6 inch layers until the pipe has a cover of not less than 18". Sewer will then be checked to determine whether any displacement of the pipe has occurred. 3
