This being the time set for the public hearing on the application of Rose Holding Corporation for rezoning the rear one-half of Lot 9, Block 22, HFM&M, the matter was considered by the Board. His Honor asked if there were any protests to the rezoning. None were voiced. Mr. Joseph F. McDonald, representing the Rose Holding Corporation, appeared before the Board and requested approval of this application for rezoning. Commissioner Sharp moved that this application of Rose Holding Corporation for rezoning be held in abeyance until the hearing on the violation of the building code concerning the construction of 10 units instead of 8 at 106-112 Van Buren Avenue has been held on June 15, 1955. Motion seconded by Commissioner Jarrett and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Jarrett, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. This being the time set for the public hearing on the application of Southern Nevada Power Company for rezoning of Lot 1, Block 1, Maryland Tract #2, together with that portion of the north 40 feet of Charleston Blvd. (now vacated) lying in front of said lot (Z-12-55, approved by the Planning Commission). His Honor asked if there were any objections to this rezoning. None were voiced. Commissioner Sharp moved that the application of Southern Nevada Power Company for rezoning of Lot 1, Block 1, Maryland Tract #2, together with that portion of the north 40 feet of Charleston Blvd. (now vacated) lying in front of said lot be approved. Motion seconded by Commissioner Bunker and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Jarrett, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. This being the time set for the public hearing on rezoning from R-1, C-1 and C-2 to R-4, initiated by the Planning Commission, of the following: 1. Lots 31, 32, Block 24 Pioneer Heights Addition and Lots 16, 17, Block 23, Wardie Addition, and Lots 1 to 5, Block 2, Maryland Tract #2. 2. Lots 1-5; Block 22, Wardie Addition, and Lots 23-32, Block 21, Wardie Addition., the matter was considered by the Board. The following persons appeared protesting the rezoning from C-1 and C-2 to R-4 of Lots 1 to 5, Block 2, Maryland Tract #2: W. L. Stephens O. M. Kulien Lloyd H. Skrenes Elmer Simila Mr. James C. Young, representing Mrs. Olga Shields, appeared requesting this rezoning. Commissioner Whipple moved that this rezoning from R-1, C-1 and C-2 to R-4 of Lots 31, 32, Block 24 Pioneer Heights; Lots 16, 17, Block 23 Wardie Addition; Lots 1 to 5, Block 22, Wardie Addition and Lots 23 to 32, Block 21, Wardie Addition be approved. Motion seconded by Commissioner Bunker and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, Commissioner Jarrett. Commissioner Whipple moved the public hearing on the rezoning of Lots 1 to 5, Block 2, Maryland Tract #2 from C-1 and C-2 to R-4 be continued until the next regular meeting on June 15, 1955, in order that the Commissioners can be furnished with additional information concerning the original zone of this Tract. Motion seconded by Commissioner Sharp and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Jarrett, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. At this time the Board considered the request of the Chamber of Commerce for funds to place signs on Highway 66. Mr. Herb MacDonald appeared on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce, requesting the outright purchase of signs from a firm in Kingman at a cost of $325.00. These signs would be 10 x 30, Scotch lite, with a contract of $25.00 per year for maintenance and repainting every 36 months complete, or $50.00 for maintenance or repainting each year. He asked that the City furnish $2,000.00 toward the cost of these signs. The Commission took the matter under advisement and said they would apprise Mr. MacDonald of their decision at a later date. At this time the Board considered the application of Ruth Day Nelson for a variance to allow an obedience training school for dogs at 729 South Rose Street.
