Distance from Main spring to the reservoir 2600 feet. Distance from reservoir to stand-pipe 9200 feet. Total amount of 18" pipe to be purchased 11,800 feet. Water main from the stand-pipe across the railroad (a distance of 1,300 feet) was renewed last fall, stave pipe being substituted for the original sheet steel pipe. 11.800 feet 18" cast iron pipe,167 lbs. to the foot, $33.00 per ton, $32,514.90. 11.800 feet 18" wooden stave pipe at 95(f, per ft. $11,210.00. 600 feet 8" cast iron pipe 50# to ft.,standard, $525.00 600 feet 8" wooden stave pipe © 56^ per ft., $336,00 Amount of piper necessary to lay mains in streets now without water would be 3,680 feet. 3.680 ft. 3" cast iron pipe, $1,157.90 3.680 ft. 3" wooden stave pipe 846.40 In addition to the above there would be $1200 or $1500 for pipe fittings. Wooden stave pipe 18" with cast iron collars instead of wooden collars banded would cost $1.13 per ft. as against 95^ per ft. for the other,mbut as there is only 100 ft. head, I do not think it. would be necessary to incur the extra expense of 18^ per ft.
