SAM BUTERA One of the most exciting instrumental vocalists of this musical era is SAM BUTERA/ with his distinctively rocking voice and wild tenor sax. Sam Butera first saw the light of day August in New Orleans, and at the age of seven, started playing the saxophone. By the time he'd reached his eighteenth birthday, Sam was voted the outstanding teenage musician in Look Magazine's poll. The year was 1945. A number of Southern colleges and Notre Dame offered scholarships to young Mr. Butera, but he decided in favor of a musical career and was proffered Sam Donahue's chair in the late great Tommy Dorsey's orchestra. Later, Louis Prima spotted Sam's talent; took him under his expert tutelage, and today he's featured with the Prima aggregation wherever they appear. Now on Prima Magnagroove Records, Sam has a new album entitled "Thinking Man's Sax" that is destined to become one of the great instrumental albums of all time. In the album, Sam gives his interpretation of some of the classic hit songs such as: "I Left My Heart in San Francisco", "Days of Wine and Roses", "Moonlight in Vermont", and the title song "Thinking Man's Sax" and others. Sam Butera won recognition for his sterling performance in the LOUIS PRIMA motion picture, "Hey Boy, Hey Girl", which was released by Columbia Studios. He continued his acting career and was featured in Paramount Pictures "The Rat Race" starring Tony Curtis and Debbie Reynolds. He was also featured in the American International Movie "Doing the Twist" starring Louis Prima and June Wilkinson. Sam Butera was "loaned out" by Prima Magnagroove Records to Reprise for an album with Sammy Davis, Jr. entitled "Sam Meets Sam" which is soon to be released. On occasion, Sam Butera and The Witnesses appear alone in the famous Harrah's Clubs in Reno and Lake Tahoe, where they are big favorites. Sam Butera and his famous Witnesses appear with Louis Prima and Gia Maione at the Sahara Hotel, Las Vegas, 30 weeks every year
