Ill cy. N! ghtgown B rigade Works In Wee Hours to Save Lawns The nightgown and pajama brigade has been formed in Las Vegas to cope with the water situation and attempt to save the. little private “meadows” which are hard-earned lawns surrounding each household. With the edict of Mayor E. W. Cragin that lawn watering shall be confined to the hours between 5 p.m. and 9 a.m., many home owners have found no pressure on the lines when everyone in town starts watering at the same time. The solution —_ alternating watering with sleeping. Too much hard ivork has gone into the establishment of lawns under desert conditions to allow them to die, and most home owners are determined to save them, even tnough they see hardships ahead. Sprinkling systems are all too rare in the community, and that means moving rotating sprays often or standing for long hours to do hand watering from a hose with a tiny trickle of water because of the low pressure on the lines. Within two days since the mayor issued his emergency orders on water conservation, it has become a common sight to see Las Vegans on their lawns M\ V 1 ? in. ‘pajamas or riigbtgbyrjis and robes watering the grass when they would prefer to be in bed. There are two schools of thought — stay up until after midnight and do the watering then — or go to bed and set the alarm for 4 a.m. There is not much choice! _________ Coming next Sunday!
