ANNOUNCEMENTS SENATE PRESIDENT PRO-TEMPORE KARI COZINE ANNOUNCED PLANS FOR THE SENATE RETREAT TO BE HELD ON JANUARY 14, 1990. PRESIDENT JOE BUNIN ANNOUNCED THAT THE OUTSTANDING STUDENT ACHIEVER TO BE HONORED AT THE REGENT'S MEETING WAS VIVIAN HARRISON. HE ALSO SAID THAT THE CHRISTMAS PARTY WILL BE ON DECEMBER 22ND AT 6 OR 7 PM AT HIS CLASS. SENATE PRESIDENT GINA B. POLOVINA EXPRESSED HER GRATITUDE TO ALL THE SENATORS AND DIRECTORS WHO BROUGHT GIFTS FOR THE NEEDY CHILDREN. V. BOARD, COMMITTEE AND DIRECTOR REPORTS YELLIN1 REBEL EDITOR KAREN SPLAWN MENTIONED THAT SHE REQUESTED BIDS FOR 4 SPRING ISSUES OF THE PAPER. BARBARA MCFARLAND ANNOUNCED THAT THE PRESCHOOL WANTED THE SAME AMOUNT OF MONEY AS THEY HAD RECEIVED THIS PAST YEAR. ROB ROSENTHAL FROM KUNV MENTIONED THAT THEY TOOK IN 215.00 THE PREVIOUS WEEK AND THAT IT WAS SLOW MONEYWISE. HE ALSO DISCUSSED THE CAN RECYCLING PROGRAM AND THAT POSSIBLY A COMMITTEE SHOULD BE FORMED NEXT SEMESTER TO KEEP THE PROGRAM GOING. APPROPRIATIONS BOARD DIRECTOR RAY FRANKULIN MENTIONED THAT HE HAD COMPILED THE BALANCES FOR ALL OF THE CSUN ACCOUNTS. PUBLICATIONS BOARD CHAIR AND ELECTIONS BOARD CHAIR ALLEN CHASTAIN ANNOUNCED THAT HE DIDN'T HAVE QUORUM FOR THE ELECTIONS BOARD MEETING. HE SAID THAT THE PUBLICATIONS BOARD WOULD MEET NEXT SEMESTER. HE DISSCUSSED THE SITUATION THAT AROSE WITH DOUG MORGAN OF THE QUICKSILVER AND HOW THE PROBLEM HAD BEEN RECTIFIED. IN REGARDS TO THE ALCOHOL POLICY, ALLEN STATED THAT THEY WILL BE TALKING WITH TERRY PIPER NEXT WEEK AND THAT HE WOULD GET IN TOUCH WITH BUD. HE ALSO SAID THAT THE POLICIES WERE SIMPLY BEING PASSED BACK AND FORTH. STUDENT SERVICES BOARD DIRECTOR PAT TUOHY INFORMED THE SENATE THAT PROGRESS HAD BEEN SLOWED ON THE HIRING PROCESS OF THE NEW CSUN LEGAL COUNCIL DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE DIRECTOR OF AFFIRMATIVE ACTION HAD REJECTED IT. PAT SAID THAT HE WOULD GET ON IT NEXT SEMESTER. SHAC CHAIRMAN BRANDI HOFFMAN ANNOUNCED THAT SHE DID NOT MAKE QUORUM AT HER LAST MEETING. SHE ALSO MENTIONED THAT THERE WOULD BE A RAPE PREVENTION SEMINAR TO BE HELD ON A SATURDAY (TBA) FOR A DURATION OF THREE HOURS. PRESIDENT BUNIN GAVE THE REPORT FOR E&P AND HE STATED THAT THERE WAS ESSENTIALLY NOTHING TO REPORT DUE TO LACK OF QUORUM. VI. EXECUTIVE BOARD NOMINATIONS A. APPROVAL OF KIM ELLIOTT AS CHAIR OF THE BYLAWS COMMITTEE. B. APPROVAL OF JORGE GONZALEZ AS A MEMBER OF THE BYLAWS COMMITTEE. VII. UNFINISHED BUSINESS THERE WAS NO UNFINISHED BUSINESS. THERE WAS DISCUSSION. THE MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY. A MOTION WAS MADE TO PLACE AN EMERGENCY ITEM ON THE FLOOR. THE MOTION WAS MADE BY SENATOR COZINE. IT WAS SECONDED BY PRESIDENT BUNIN. THE MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY. THE EMERGENCY ITEM WAS THE APPROVAL OF THE EXECUTIVE BOARD NOMINATIONS. MOTION TO APPROVE BY SENATOR COZINE. SECONDED BY PRESIDENT BUNIN. THERE WAS A MOTION MADE TO DIVIDE THE QUESTION. THE MOTION WAS MADE BY SENATOR HOFFMAN. IT WAS SECONDED BY SENATOR ROSENBERG. MOTION CARRIED 11 FOR, 3 AGAINST, AND 1 ABSTENTION. A. APPROVAL OF KIM ELLIOTT AS CHAIR OF THE BYLAWS COMMITTEE. THERE WAS DISCUSSION AND THE SENATE ASKED SENATOR ELLIOTT SEVERAL QUESTIONS. MOTION CARRIED WITH 8 IN FAVOR, 3 OPPOSED, AND 4 ABSTENTIONS. B. APPROVAL OF JORGE GONZALEZ AS A MEMBER OF THE BYLAWS COMMITTEE. THE MOTION PASSED WITH 14 IN FAVOR AND 1 ABSTENTION. IX. OPEN DISCUSSION SENATOR BENNETT MENTIONED THAT CSUN WAS IN NEED OF AN ATTORNEY REAL SOON. SENATOR YNIGUES STATED THAT HE BELIEVED THAT THE RAPE PREVENTION SEMINAR SOUNDED LIKE A GOOD IDEA. SENATOR FITZPATRICK MENTIONED THAT HE WOULD BE OUT OF TOWN DURING THE CSUN RETREAT. SENATOR RAMSEY SAID THAT SHE THOUGHT THAT THE RAPE PREVENTION SEMINAR WAS A GOOD IDEA. SHE ALSO WISHED EVERYONE LUCK ON THEIR FINALS. SENATOR PRATT EXTENDED HOLIDAY GREETINGS. SENATOR HOFFMAN WISHED ALL A HAPPY HOLIDAY. SHE ALSO SPOKE ABOUT THE RAPE PREVENTION SEMINAR A BIT MORE. SENATOR GONZALEZ DISCUSSED THE PROCEDURE REGARDING THE QUESTIONING OF THOSE WHO ARE UP FOR CHAIRMANSHIPS. SENATOR BUNIN AGREED WITH JORGE'S COMMENTS AND WISHED EVERYONE HAPPY HOLIDAYS. SENATOR ROSENBERG REINTERATED SENATOR BUNIN'S COMMENTS. SENATOR GEIHS STATED, IN REGARDS TO THE RAPE PREVENTION SEMINAR, THAT HE WAS RAPED AND THAT SENATOR TABOLA WAS RESPONSIBLE. HE ALSO WISHED EVERYONE HAPPY HOLIDAYS. HE STATED THAT HE WOULD BE RESIGNING HIS SEAT AT THE END OF THE MEETING DUE TO THE FACT THAT HE WOULD BE STUDYING ABROAD NEXT SEMESTER. SENATOR TABOLA THANKED SENATOR PRATT FOR THE CARD AND HE ALSO WARNED ALL OF THE SENATE TO LIGHTEN UP. HE WISHED EVERYONE A HAPPY NEW YEAR AND A MERRY CHRISTMAS. HE TOLD THE SENATE THAT HE WOULD SEE THEM AT THE CHRISTMAS PARTY AND ALSO AT THE RETREAT. SENATOR ELLIOTT WAS AT A LOSS AS TO WHAT TO SAY. SENATOR SWANK MENTIONED THAT HE WANTED SNOW AND HE MENTIONED THE EXECUTIVE BOARD'S DISCISION AS TO A BYLAWS CHAIR. SENATOR BENNEMAN ALSO MENTIONED THE MATTER OF QUESTIONING AND ANSWERING OF THOSE BEING CONSIDERED FOR CHAIRMANSHIPS. CHIEF JUSTICE DAN WALL WISHED EVERYONE HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND MENTIONED THAT THE SCHEDULED JUDICIAL COUNCIL MEETING AT 6:30 PM MIGHT BE CANCELLED. PUB./ELECTIONS BOARD CHAIR ALLEN CHASTAIN APOLOGIZED TO THE SENATE FOR RUNNING OUT TOWARD THE BEGINNING OF THE MEETING BUT HE SAID THAT HE DID SO IN ORDER TO SPEAK WITH MIKE. MARGARET LEWIS, CHAIR OF THE FACULTY SENATE SMOKING COMMITTEE, HANDED OUT COPIES OF THE CLEAN AIR POLICY AND SHE SAID THAT THE REACTIONS TO THE POLICY HAVE BEEN FAVORABLE SO FAR. IF ANYONE WAS IN NEED OF INFORMATION, THEY COULD CALL HER AT EXTENTION 3 812. SENATE PRESIDENT PRO-TEMPORE COZINE STATED THAT SHE LIKED SENATOR BENNEMAN'S HAIR. SHE ALSO REMINDED THE SENATOR'S OF THE RETREAT AND SHE BRIEFLY DISCUSSED PLANS FOR THE EVENT. PRESIDENT BUNIN STATED THAT HE THOUGHT THAT THE RAPE PREVENTION SEMINAR WAS A GOOD IDEA. HE SAID THAT HE WOULD MISS SENATOR GEIHS. HE MENTIONED THAT HE WOULD HAVE MAPS TO HIS HOUSE IN EVERYONE'S BOX WITHIN THE NEXT FEW DAYS. HE ALSO DISCUSSED THE PARKING SITUATION AND SAID THAT LOTS B,C, AND D WILL BE RESERVED AND THAT STUDENTS WILL HAVE TO PAY IN ORDER TO PARK THERE. SENATE PRESIDENT POLOVINA WISHED CSUN BUSINESS MANAGER BARBARA MCFARLAND LUCK IN HER FUTURE PLANS. SHE SAID THAT SHE THOUGHT THAT THE RAPE PREVENTION SEMINAR IS A GOOD IDEA AND THAT SHE THOUGHT THAT DAVE JACKSON WOULD BE A GREAT INSTRUCTOR. SHE MENTIONED THAT SHE HAD 4 OR 5 APPLICANTS FOR THE SENATE SECRETARY POSITION AND THAT THE APPLICATION DEADLINE WOULD BE DECEMBER 8, 1989 AT 5:00 PM. SHE ALSO STATED THAT SHE WOULD MISS SENATOR GEIHS AND THAT THEY HAD BEEN THROUGH A LOT TOGETHER IN CSUN. SHE FURTHER STATED THAT SHE FELT THAT THE BYLAWS QUESTIONING APPEARED TO BE AN OUTRIGHT ATTACK. SHE REMINDED THE SENATORS NOT TO FORGET ABOUT THE CSUN RETREAT AND THAT THERE, MOST LIKELY, WOULD NOT BE ANOTHER MEETING UNTIL JANUARY 18TH. X. ADJOURNMENT SENATE PRESIDENT GINA B.
