    ORDINANCE NO. 623 AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE UNIFORM PLUMBING CODE AS ADOPTED BY ORDINANCE NO. 520; BY PROVIDING REQUIRE­MENTS FOR THE INSTALLATION OF LAWN SPRINKLING SYSTEMS, PERMANENT AND RENTAL WATER SOFTENING EQUIPMENT; PROVIDING FOR THE ISSUANCE OF PERMITS; PROVIDING FOR EXAMINATION OF PERSONS ENGAGED IN THE INSTALLATION OF LAWN SPRINKLING SYSTEMS AND PERMANENT AND RENTAL WATER SOFTENING EQUIPMENT; PROVIDING OTHER MATTERS PROPERLY RELATED THERETO; AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH. The Board of Commissioners of the City of Las Vegas do ordain as follows; SECTION 1. Section 1.11 of the Uniform Plumbing Code, 1952 Edition, as adopted by Ordinance No. 520, is hereby amended by adding new sections, to read as follows: (d) A permit may be issued for the original installation of permanent and rental water softening equipment, provided the work done shall involve only minor changes in the existing water lines. Every application for a permit shall be accompanied by a sketch or drawing of the proposed installation. The fee required shall be that as set forth in Ordinance No. 520. Before such permit shall be issued to make the installation, as provided herein, the person or an employee of such person making such installation, shall have successfully passed an examination given by the Plumbing Examining Board of the City of Las Vegas for a limited certificate of competency permitting the holder to make minor changes in the plumbing system to install only permanent and rental water softening equipment. The license fee for this examination shall be the same as that required for journeyman plumbers. (e) Any person licensed as a sprinkling systems contractor by the Nevada State Contractor's Board may be issued plumbing permits to install, alter, or enlarge sprinkling systems, provided, however, that a certified journeyman plumber must install the required vacuum breakers or back flow protection devices and connect the same to existing water lines, under the supervision of said sprinkling system contractor. SECTION 2. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. SECTION 3. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect upon its reading and adoption as provided in the following section. SECTION 4. The City Clerk and Clerk of the Board of Commissioners of the City of Las Vegas shall cause this ordinance to be published once a week for two successive weeks immediately following its first reading and adoption in the Las Vegas Sun, a daily newspaper published in the City of Las Vegas.
