"Pzazz '68!" surpasses the definition in the most breathtaking production to hit Las Vegas in 1 5 years. Produced by Frank Sennes; staged, created and directed by Donn Arden; original music and arrangements by Jim Harbert; production design and art direction by Harvey Warren; costumes by Bill Campbell with original lyrics by Leonard Adelson ?╟÷ that's "Pzazz!" From the frenetic "Hollywood High Camp" opening to the "Salute to Beau Geste" closing 110 minutes later it never slows down; the psychedelic lighting effects, masterful costuming and general staging, color-wise assault one's visual sense as never before in Las Vegas history. The production numbers are each memorable for incomparable beauty of setting, special effects, great dancing and singing by a cast of 70 energetic, fresh-looking boys and girls. In shows of this nature you must have several acts that work "in one" to allow the crew (and this crew is flawless!) time to change the sets. In "Pzazz" these acts are NOT just time killers, they are stars of the future. Ken and Bob Snyder have taken the hoary brother act and elevated it to an art form. Bob is a multi-voiced impressionist with as good a set of pipes of his own as we have ever heard; Ken plays everything for laughs except the several instruments he utilizes in the act. He is a fine musician. Jeremy Vernon is a stand-up comic with original material, a delightful delivery, good looks, and the brightest future imaginable. His foreign airlines bit is hysterical. Bambi McCormick, a beautiful "California blonde" type, has a vocal range from contralto to the upper-upper Yma Sumac trills. She'll give you chills. Rudy Cardenas seems to be the best juggler in the business. The Agostinos blend pantomime comedy with superb adagio and feats of strength ?╟÷ on the part of ex-Marine and Olympic gymnast Frank ?╟÷ with beauty and grace supplied by Denise. Blonde Galla Shawn does fantastic trapeze work. Carlton Hayes and his augmented ork were flawless opening night. No wonder he has been the leader at the Dl 17 years. Special tribute must be paid to Carl Jablonski and Joyce Roberts, assistants to Donn Arden; Berman's of Hollywood who executed Campbell's thrill- I ing costume designs; Lou Norman's arrangements; lighting and sound effects by Ed White and Randy Wood; the very special special effects by Peter Fey; Eddie Kreig's multi-hued doves; stage manager Esper Esau and com- ipany captain Ffolliott Lecoque. '68', the spectacular of all spectaculars is a smash hit. This extravaganza opened in the Crystal Room of Howard Hughes' Desert Inn Hotel for an indefinite stand costing $750,000. Never in all the years of covering this beat have I been so impressed witn a musical revue as 'Pzazz!' '68' which was produced by Frank Sennes and staged and directed by Donn Arden. These two show business geniuses have done the impossible. They have exceeded anything they created in the past. The production numbers sparkle fromthe word go with one of the most unusual collection of girls which took six weeks to cast. It is a well paced show dealing in high camp of Hollywood fitting the mod, mad world of today. The opening number is highlighted on three noted female stars: Julie Andrews, Mae West and Carmen Miranda featured in today's mod style. Janice Hague portrays Miss Andrews, Lainie Nelson as Miss West and Lillian D'Honau as Miss Miranda. The psychedelic lighting plays an important part in this sequence. It's a great opening number. The second number is aflash- back to the delightful days oi Fred Astaire with many talented dancers and singers in a mirrored ballroom. Show gals are seen in a fashion parade of beautiful costumes. Some of the musical numbers are "The Continental," "Cheek to Cheek," "Let's Face the Music,", "Change Partners," "Dancing in the Dark" and last but not least "Top Hat, White Tie and Tails." Another standout production number is "Boomtown Today." which is up-to-date with the leather jacket crowd on motor- ?╟≤ cycles in a whip dance and an oil well that burns. It's a hippie throng. No show of this type would be complete without the "Road" series of Bing Crosby, Bob Hope and Dorothy Lamour. This is called "Polynesian Paradise" which includes a waterfall. The finale is a salute to "Beau Geste" with the entire company. Of all the acts, the Snyder Brothers, Bob and Ken standout like a sore thumb with mimicry. Bob does singing takeoffs of Dean Martin, Perry Como, Tony Bennett, Eddie Fisher and others. These two youngsters have talent to burn in comedy and songs. Bob's voice can match any one named. Comedian Jeremy. Vernon comes in for his share of honors on various routines of comedy. 'Pzgzz!' '68' is a "must see" show and a well worth addition to the show capitol of the world. This is a show for the entire family and it figures to remain at least one year. It is highly recommended. After the show opening night Miss Lamour said, "This has to be the most fantastic show ever, presented in the desert city.
