RICHARD LOCHRIE, being first duly sworn, deposes and says: That he is Foreman of the LAS VEGAS MORNING SUN, a daily newspaper, of general circulation, printed and published at Las Vegas, in the County of Clark,State of Nevada, and that the attached was continuously published in said newspaper for a period of two weeks from May 17, 1955 to May 24, 1955 inclusive, being the issues of said newspaper for the following dates, to-wit: May 17 24, 1955. ORDINANCE NO. 645 AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 5 CHAPTER 13, and SECTION 4, CHAPTER 16, OF THE CODE OF LAS VEGAS, NEVADA, 1949, BY DEFINING DISTRICTS WHERE GAMBLING MAY BE CONDUCTED AND WHERE TAVERNS MAY BE LOCATED; AND REPEAL­ING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT THEREWITH. The Board of Commissioners of the City of Las Vegas do ordain as follows: SECTION 1. Section 9, Chapter 13, Code of Las Vegas, Nevada, 1949, is hereby amended to read as follows: "No game, slot machine or gambling device as enumerated in section 1 and defined in section 3 of this chapter, for which a license has been issued, shall be conducted, maintained or operated within the city except within the district thereof bounded by the east side of Main Street, the south side of Stewart Avenue, the west side of Second Street, and the north side of Carson Avenue, and also on both sides of West Jackson Avenue between North "D" Street and North "G" Street, and no license shall be issued to conduct, maintain or operate such game, slot machine or gambling device except within such districts; provided, that a license may be issued for the conduct, maintenance and opera­tion of such slot machines, game and gambling device outside of such district in any hotel having at least one hundred guest rooms, and the same shall be operated and conducted only upon the street floor thereof and in conformity with all the requirements of the provisions of this chapter; and, provided further, that a license may be issued for the operation of a slot machine outside of such districts to the owner of any other regularly established and duly licensed business and such slot machine shall be operated and maintained in and at such place of business and in accordance with all the require­ments of this chapter". SECTION 2. Section 4, Chapter 16, Code of Las Vegas, Nevada, 1949 is hereby amended to read as follows: "Taverns may be maintained only in that portion of the city known as the commercial district and described as follows: All frontage on Fremont Street to the east city limits to a depth not exceeding 150 feet; all frontage on Fifth Street from the south city limits to the north city limits to a depth not exceeding 150 feet; all lots fronting on First Street, Second Street, Third Street, and Fourth Street between Bridger Avenue and Stewart Avenue; all lots fronting on Main Street from Bonanza Road to Charles­ton Boulevard; all lots fronting on the north side of Bonanza Road between the Union Pacific right-of- way and "H" Street; all lots fronting on Wilson Avenue between the Union Pacific right-of-way and "H" Street; and all lots fronting on West Jackson Avenue between "D" and "G" Streets. SECTION 3. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. SECTION 4. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect upon its final reading and adoption, and final publication as in the next section provided. SECTION 5. The City Clerk and Clerk of the Board of Commissioners of the City of Las Vegas shall cause this ordinance to be published once a week for two successive weeks Immediately following its read­ing and adoption in the Las Vegas Sun, a daily newspaper published in the City of Las Vegas. BAKER ATTEST: Mayor /s/ SHIRLEY BALLINGER City Clerk The above and foregoing ordinance was first proposed and read by title to the Board of Commissioners on the 4th day of May, 1955 and referred to the following committee composed of Commissioners Sharp and Whipple for recommendations; thereafter the said committee reported favorable on said ordinance on the l8th day of May, 1955 which was the regular meeting held on said day, that at said regular meeting held on said day, the proposed ordinance was read in full to the Board of Commissioners and adopted by the following votes: Voting "Aye": Commissioners Jarrett, Sharp and Mayor Pro Tem Whipple Voting "Nay": None Absent: Commissioner Bunker and Mayor Baker; APPROVED: C.D.
