Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Theta Theta Omega Chapter and 20 Pearls Foundation, Inc. invite you to join us for a lecture and dialogue with one of America’s leading voices of social

justice.
The gathering is free and open to the public.

Judge Johnnie Rawlinson became the first University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law graduate to sit on a federal appellate bench, when she was appointed to the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in 2000. She is also the first African-American woman to serve on that

court. Judge Rawlinson served as a U.S. District Court Judge, District of Nevada, for only two years before being nominated to the nation's second-highest court by President Bill Clinton. Prior to her judicial service, she, spent 18 years with the Clark County District Attorney s Office, Las Vegas, Nevada. Judge Rawlinson and her

family reside in Las Vegas.

Little Dress Project - Our goal is to make 100 dresses for the cause that we will donate at Boule. If you would like to help with the Little Dress Project but don't know how to sew, you can still help by purchasing cotton or polyester pillow cases and rickrack and bringing it to the April meeting. Target V and the Sisterly Relations committee are sponsoring a sewing party after the chapter meeting at the home of Soror E. Lavonne Lewis. Lunch will be provided.

Target V - Global Impact -

The Global Impact Committee met on February 24th at the home of Soror E. Lavonne Lewis. They discussed the Little Dress Project and ideas for the United Day Celebration. It was proposed that we submit a grant

application to the Nevada Humanities Committee to bring Susan Rice to Las Vegas to discuss the operation of the United Nations.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and Africare are partnering with Little Dresses for Africa to create an opportunity for sorors to help young girls in Africa. The pillowcase dress service project allows sorors to work together, independently or even with family members to make little dresses for communities in South Africa and Liberia. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is taking on the challenge to bring 29,000 pillowcase dresses to the 2016 Boule. Following the Boule, the dresses will be shipped directly to pre

selected communities in Africa. An article and photos of our donations will be featured in an Ivy Leaf following the Boule.

he Las Vegas chapter of EAlpha Kappa Alpha sorority

celebrated 50 years during a gala April 18 at the Monte Carlo.

The Theta Theta Omega chapter began with 12 women determined to serve the community and enhance young people’s lives.

The highlight of the Golden Anniversary Gala led by Keysa Rogers and Kim Martin was the introduction
of six of the founding members in attendance: Jackie Hoggard and Margaret Crawford of North Las Vegas, Barbara Kirkland and Lois Bolden of Las Vegas, Pat White of Sacramento, Calif., and Dorothy Thornhill of Los Angeles.

The first chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha was founded more than 100 years ago on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. It now has 980 chapters in 48 states and eight

countries. The organization has built schools in Africa, led voting projects and created nationwide leadership and educational programs.

Guests learned more about the organization’s history by visiting the onsite 50th Anniversary Museum, which contained a collection of photos and other artifacts.

Attendees ate salmon and baked chicken, with lemon pineapple cake with

white cream frosting for dessert. Music by Barry Black and the

Senzulas band followed by DJ Thump had the room rocking to the latest sounds.

Among the guests were former state Sen. Joe Neal, D-North Las Vegas; Sylvia Allen, president of 100 Black Women; Las Vegas Links President Kathleen Knight and her husband, Bubba Knight; Girlfriends Inc. President Marie Ray Scott; Nina Bailey of Zeta Phi Beta sorority; Daniel Monroe; Dr. Dexter Morris of the Grand Boule; E. Lavonne Lewis; and Lillian McMorris.

Alpha Kappa Alpha President Celeste Hunter said the sorority has launched new dimensions of service through five target areas to improve community involvement: education, health, family, environmental ownership and global impact.

The Las Vegas Alpha Kappa
Alpha chapter, along with the Pearls Foundation, which is its charitable arm, has given out more than $100,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors.
