URGENT MEMO TO: All members of the Jewish Community FROM: Jewish Family Service Agency RE: How you can write happy endings Mikey and his mother, Laura, were abandoned by Dad, who refused even to acknowledge his son's existence. Mikey's pain and anger have surfaced as severe problems in school and with other children. JFSA is serving his family in three ways: Laura attends our Single Parents Group, Mikey has a Jewish "Big Brother," and both Laura and Mikey are receiving individual psychological counseling. There's been wonderful progress. . . Thanks to you and other JFSA Members! You really can work wonders in the lives of others by becoming a member of Jewish Family Service Agency! This year's goal of $30,000 is earmarked to aid families in distress; frail, aging adults; the impoverished; physically, mentally and emotionally disabled persons; Soviet Jewish refugees; adolescents having trouble in school or society. In short, this money will aid virtually every member of our Jewish community who needs a place to turn in time of trouble. Julia, age 81, lives a solitary life in a beautiful home - but she is frightened to be alone and she suffers repeated panic attacks that become medical emergencies. Elenya, a lively 73-year-old woman from the Soviet Union, resettled with her family in Las Vegas through JFSA's Resettlement Program. But Elenya is an independent woman who doesn't wan to live with her children. Enter: JFSA's new Homesharing Program. Julia invites Elenya to share her home, offering Elenya independent living while Julia gains the companionship and sense of security she needs. . . Thanks to you and other JFSA Members! These are not miracles, my friend. Happy endings are the result of a community of people who care about each other. There are more than 2,000 stories that might be told about Southern Nevadans helped by your Jewish Family Service Agency. Mikey, Laurie, Julia and Elenya are but four who demonstrate how vital are JFSA services to our community. But you are the author of these stories - you and the other caring people who support JFSA. Without you, there is no counseling help for children and families in distress, no one to provide food and medicine for many of our indigent, no programs to arrange Jewish adoptions or mediate homesharing for the elderly - no services that answer the needs of 2,000 of your neighbors. Without you, there is no Jewish Family Service Agency. A dozen years ago, this Agency was born into a community with a profound need for such services as JFSA pro-vides. Each year since has been a milestone in JFSA's coming of age. For example: Individual and group counseling The JFSA Volunteers-in-Service Jewish teens activities Non-sectarian federal grants to help indigents Passover Fund to help families celebrate the holiday Resettlement of Jewish immigrants Emergency Assistance Fund for the Jewish community Chaplaincy committee visiting the ill in home or hospital Adoption service for Jewish families The Homesharing program "Las Vegas Match" Today, JFSA has its greatest need ever, simply to keep up with current demands for assistance in every program. And we must still face the fact that Southern Nevada's startling growth will place ever-increasing demands on JFSA programs and personnel. Your membership helps us write happy endings for the Mikeys, Lauries, Julias and Elenyas of Southern Nevada. Please respond today. Send your generous check along with the membership form below.
