Page 36 ?╟÷ GOLD COAST BULLETIN, Tuesday, February 4, 1986 Rollicking dancing in a 'Hotel in Brisbane' set provides a taste of high spirited early Australiana in Starz. (From Previous Page) Now if this doesn't capture your entertainment palate, nothing will. The entire production uses more than 400 costumes which have taken five months of work by top Australian costumiers, tailors, show- makers and milliners. Some of the wigs stand three feet high and are so elaborate that a window design company had to be employed to make them and the foundations of the costumes for the Venice scenario had to be braced with 100 metres of steel bands to get the right shape. Attention to detail demanded machining and hand embroidering of decorative embellishments including 1000 mirrors the size of 20 cent coins, 5000 rhinestones and countless iridiscent and gold sequins. Many dancers of Starz double as acro- dancers* ?╟÷ cart-wheeling, leaping and twisting liquid limbs with ease. There are comedy spots including funny man George Carl, who although a man of few words, has comical actions and expressions that say it all and invite peals of laughter. And marionettes (in the hands of Barclay Shaw) such as the dry and hilarious sarcasm of Madam Clara Cluck, the world's 'foulest' chicken, provided further stimulation to the funny bone. Music is superbly presented via a 16- piece orchestra. Starz was written, directed and choreographed by Jerry Jackson, a man held in high esteem for his talents in spectacular productions, television specials and musicals. He is the mastermind responsible for staging, conceiving, choreographing and directing the 14th, 15th and the 16th edition of the Tropicana's 'Folies Bergere' French Revue and his Broadway credits include 'Man of La Mancha' with Lani Kazan and 'Seven Brides for Seven Brothers' starring Jane Powell and Howard Keel.
