Page 2 WHEEL OF ROTARY DECEMBER 22, 1949 — TODAY IS CHRISTMAS The program for today's meeting is under the direction of Jim Shaver, pro-gram chairman Nobody can tell what droll sort of Santa Claus business Jim will provide, hut we understand that Sam Kurtz is helping to bring us that talented Choral Group of The Mesquite Club, who will give us some lovely Christmas music. * * * * * * * * * * NEXT WEEK Next week's program will be by Rev. Fr. Lambe, who will touch on "The Auld Sod" * i*n *th*e *co*ur*se* *of* M s talk. COMING UP Thursday, January 5, 1950, Win. B. Chamberlain, executive secretary of "Greater Arizona, Inc." will give a talk on the "Industrial Development of the Southwest." - * * * * * * * * * DISAPPOINTED? Because Boulder City Rotary Club a held its Christmas celebration Wednes-day evening instead of the regular Wednesday noon meeting, we fear that some of our members lost their chance to make up their attendance. (P.S. It counted anyway.) * * * * * * * * * * BABY ROTARIANS Baby Rotarians looking for Santa Claus this year are PHIL SHIPLEY, un-der the classification of "Land Devel-opment", and WILLIAM B. MOORE, "Resorts" With them, of course, will come Rotary Ann June Shipley and Rotary Ann Pat Moore, to add to the gaiety of Christ; MERRY CHRISTMAS: FROM ABROAD Did you know that Las Vegas Rotary Club lias received Christ-mas cards and letters from all parts of the world?...Secretary Allye's idea of mailing a few copies of "The Wheel" each week to Rotary Clubs over the world, has borne fine results Any of you Rotarians who wish to es-tablish friendships abroad, can work up a mighty interesting correspondence if you will con-tact Secretary Allye who is keep-ing a little directory on names and places. * * * * * * * * * * * FROM SAN FRANCISCO This Editor this week receiv-ed a card (as we suppose others did also) saying: "Thank you for being one cf the four thousand visitors who came to see us this past year. Come again....Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year. ROTARY.CLUB OF SAN FRANCISCO W&RREN^GRIFFITH, PRESIDENT" WHEEL OF ROTARY Page 3 CHRISTMAS COMMITTEE Our Christmas Committee had a lot of real, hard work to do this year.. First, there was Rotary Ann Helen Beville, upon whom fell the responsibil-ity of arranging for the gifts, and who "beautifully wrapped them.... Then there were the other members, each of whom is doing an important part to make this a worthwhile Rotary Christmas--SAM KURTZ, JOHN BEVILLE and the Old Standby, JIM SHAVER. CHRISTMAS TOYS Again this year "Scoop" Garside has been busy with the "Toys For Underpriv-ileged Children.".... Only a fewRotar-ians will remember that Las Vegas Rotary Club gave $500 for the purchase of tools for the Las Vegas Fire Laddies, so that they could repair eld or used toys to make them suitable for Santa Claus to give out again It is a fine service of which Las Vegas Rotary is *oroud. VISITING ROTARIAN^ ^ ^ The following named members of other Rotary Clubs visited us last meeting: C. DAVIS HALTER PRESTON AL COMAY WALTER BRISTL LEE BURT LESLIE WYR3 TOM LOVELL JIM C0ST3LL0 M. C. POWELL Boulder City Omaha, Neb. Hollywood, Cal. Lewiston, Idaho Caliente, Nev. N.E. Los Angeles San Bernardino Los Angeles #5 Ogden, Utah President Leonard welcomes all of you and extends a cordial invitation to come again. FROM JOHN BOICE Secretary Allye has received copy of the "Rotarian Sunbeam*, published by the Rotary Club of St. Petersburg, Fla.... The issue is 12 pages with 39 pictures of members and their Rotary Anns. The occasion (Dec. 16) was the official visit- of their District Governor Walter Ken-nedy. ... Among other things , the Sunbeam carries a little story: "Seems strange to see John Bcice's name among the visiting Rotarians. John's listed as being from Las Vegas, Nevada, but there's just too much sand in John's shoes to stay away long from ol' St.Pete." John himself sends us a message: "Kindest regards to all old friends there. Thanks for the weekly re-ports— greatly enjoy them. JOEN^ FRO^ Z E M A . ' We had a pleasant let-ter from R . Hayes Hamilton, the poet of Zenia Rotary Club: "Another Xmas rolls around. ..Glad tidings from the chimes do sound; This year I have no rotary 'pome' But my thoughts to Las Vegas are bound to roam, ..]As I can nev-er forget last year, by golly! That beautiful box of white Christmas Holly....If the body is willing and the branches bend, Would it be possible for you to send Another box as hearty For our Christmas needy party? Even same, with an occasional berry, And may your Christmas be one that's Merry." R . HAYES HAMILTON 901 No. King Street, Zenia, Ohio. Some of us will surely send our poet friend a piece of white holly but it may be a little late.
