    ORDINANCE NO. 253 AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 3 OF ORDINANCE NO. 210 OF THE CITY OF LAS VEGAS ENTITLED "AN ORDINANCE TO FIX, IMPOSE AND PROVIDE FOR THE COLLECTION OF A LICENSE TAX ON MOTOR PROPELLED VEHICLES OPERATED FOR HIRE, AND TO REGULATE THE OPERATION AND RUNNING OF THE SAME, WITHIN THE CITY OF LAS VEGAS: FIXING A PENALTY FOR THE VIOLATION OF ANY OF THE PROVISIONS OF THIS ORDINANCE; AND REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 100 AND ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH." The Board of Commissioners of the City of Las Vegas, do ordain as follows: SECTION 1. Section 3 of Ordinance No. 210 of the City of Las Vegas is hereby amended to read as follows: SECTION 3. SECURITY TO BE FURNISHED. Before a license to operate shall be granted to any person, firm, association, or corporation engaged in operating taxicabs, rent car service, or any vehicle as herein defined for hire in the City of Las Vegas, they or it shall deposit with the City Clerk a policy or policies securing payment in accordance with the provi­sions thereof to the patrons and passengers of each taxicab specifically insured and any and all other persons, except the operator or any of his employees, (a) for damages because of bodily injury or death sustained by any such persons caused by accident and arising out of negligence in the use or operation of such taxicab; (b) for damages because of injury to or destruction of property (except property owned by, rented to, leased to, in charge of, or transported by the operator other than baggage of passengers) caused by accident and ari­sing out of negligence in the use or operation of such taxicab, for the following amounts; as respects coverage (a), Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00) for each person and subject to that limit for each person, Ten Thousand Dollars (10,000.00) for each accident; and as res­pects Coverage (b), Five Thousand Dollars (5,000.00) for each accident. No such policy of interest shall be cancelled prior to its expiration upon five (5) days' notice in writing to the City Clerk. Upon the cancellation or expiration of such policy of insurance, it shall be unlawful to operate any taxicab covered thereby until a new policy of insurance meeting the requirements of this Ordinance shall have been deposited with the City Clerk. The said policy of insurance shall be issued by a company authorized to do business in this state and shall be approved by the City Attorney as to form and compliance with this Or­dinance. When any person, firm, association, or corporation is operating more than one vehicle as herein defined for hire at any one time in the City of Las Vegas, the said owner shall furnish an additional automobile liability policy as set forth above for each additional car so operated. SECTION 2. The City Clerk is hereby authorized to have this Ordinance published in the Las Vegas Review Journal, a daily newspaper printed and published in the City of Las Vegas, Clark County, Nevada, for a period of two weeks, that is to say, once each week for a period of two weeks. This Ordinance was read aloud to the Board of Commissioners at a recessed regular meeting of the Board held on the 9th day of July, 1940 at which time it was pro- posed, considered and voted upon, and unanimously adopted and there after published in the Las Vegas Evening Review Journal a daily newspaper, published in the City of Las Vegas for a period of once a week for two consecutive weeks immediately following its first reading. And it was there after read aloud to the Board a second time at a regular meeting of the Board held on the 5th of August, 1940.
