This Is a desert community where temperatures occur in excess of l l 6 degrees F. in summer, and a large amount of water is used. Last year our water supply barely met the demand, but we expected by reason of closing down of the large Magnesium plant there would be a reduction in population and we would have ample for this year. However, instead of reduced demand we are up against a vastly increased demand ow in g,first, to the fact that the U tilitie s Commission obliged us to take over a subdivision previously served by a private water company, and further by the fa ct that instead of reducing employment at the Basic plant the War Department has turned over one portion thereof to the Rheem Mfg. Co. and another to the Western Electro-Chemical Co. for rush reh abilitation of the plant and manufacture of rocket ammunition, thereby instead of reducing the population considerably increasing i t , and making absolutely necessary the production and delivery of additional water to the community fo r purely Defense purposes.
