B SEP 20 1948 / 7 A 4 $ For Water District Vote Clark county commissioners yesterday set October :? 19 as the date when affected residents w in decide on formation of the Las Vegas valley water district. On the date of the long-awaited election, certain residents also w ill vote for one director m their division to represent them in a board comprised from the seven divisions. Commissioners yesterday also named candidates for each of the seven divisions from a list of names proposed by the chamber of commerce. ’ - District Attorney Robert K Jones said qualified voters will have two propositions to decide: One—should toe w ater district be created?; and t w o - vote fo r one candidate to rgj.- resent them in their - j . divisferaiiy the following divisions w ill be created, and voters from these divisions will vote on creation of the district and for one director. These were Pittman, Whitney, Arm y air base, North Las Vegas, Las Vegas, Paradise Valley and the highway 91 strip. Candidates named by commissioners to run were Harry M iller and f ’loyd Prowell, division 1; Frank T5trdhj^JiThornas A. Campbell and 'Ryland Taylor, division 2; James Cashman and Howard Cannon, division 3; G. Plans for the , comprehensive water district were proposed to provide an adequate water sup-: b ply for the county’s growing population. Under the program, the dis- ^ trict directors would be charged with all water consumed in the. area,. take, over the holdings of the Las Vegas Land and Water company and coordinate all services.
