B SEP 20 1948 / 7 A 4 $ For Water District Vote Clark county commissioners yesterday set October :? 19 as the date when affected residents w in decide on formation of the Las Vegas valley water district. On the date of the long-await­ed election, certain residents also w ill vote for one director m their division to represent them in a board comprised from the seven divisions. Commissioners yesterday also named candidates for each of the seven divisions from a list of names proposed by the cham­ber of commerce. ’ - District Attorney Robert K Jones said qualified voters will have two propositions to decide: One—should toe w ater dis­trict be created?; and t w o - vote fo r one candidate to rgj.- resent them in their - j . divisferaiiy the following divis­ions w ill be created, and voters from these divisions will vote on creation of the district and for one director. These were Pitt­man, Whitney, Arm y air base, North Las Vegas, Las Vegas, Par­adise Valley and the highway 91 strip. Candidates named by commis­sioners to run were Harry M il­ler and f ’loyd Prowell, division 1; Frank T5trdhj^JiThornas A. Camp­bell and 'Ryland Taylor, division 2; James Cashman and Howard Cannon, division 3; G. William Coulthard and Victor Shurtleff, d iv isio n ^ Lor in Ronnow and A1 Corradeiti; -'division 5; Spencer Butterfield, Nelson Conway and U. C. Nickerson, division d, and John Bunch and John Stafford^ division 7. Plans for the , comprehensive water district were proposed to provide an adequate water sup-: b ply for the county’s growing pop­ulation. Under the program, the dis- ^ trict directors would be charged with all water consumed in the. area,. take, over the holdings of the Las Vegas Land and Water company and coordinate all serv­ices.
