OFFICE MEMO Regarding newspaper editorial In connection with delay to vehicular traffic on Charleston Blvd, at Railroad crossings Discussed with City Manager today who suggested it do at other points* I advised him when Eastbound freight trains pull into the yard they ordinarily experience no delay the crossing is blooked for a short time, it would take longer to switch a heavy train, cut and reoouple the air, than the few minutes delay the train orew ordinarily anticipates* I asked him If there was anything the railroad could do to expedite the underpass program and he stated we had already done our part; the Main Street widening program Is expected to get under way in July, after which the underpays will b© started* Murphy of the State Highway Department, who stated the railroad had provided all necessary right-of-ways, etc., and that the ?HH , , underpass construction is definitely programed for this Fall.
