I agree. This is no minor task since some of the elaborate sets measure more than 60 feet in length and are extremely fragile. In keeping with the tradition of providing opening night guests with one surprise after another, the Stardust has employed strict security measures surrounding all rehearsals. Director Arden has been very frugal with advance information on the new production, not wanting to dull the impact of the extravaganza prior to its Dec. 28 premiere. The Stardust technical staff is working around the clock to perfect a wide scope of special effects guaranteed to fill each of the production numbers with bigger-than-life reality. It is known that in the opening number, the huge stage will suddenly become a four-deck luxury liner, sailing around the world, complete with a manifest of beautiful girls. The stage will then be reset for an elaborate Oriental dream, complete with waterfall and giant reflecting pool. There will be lilies floating on the water as hundreds of Japanese lanterns flash their gay light around the stage. A flying ballet will lead up to the realistic eruption of Mt. Fujiyama. Imagining all of this on a nightclub stage is enough to boggle the mind. Actually seeing it will make twice nightly audiences stare in absolute disbelief. -11-
