Charleston, Valley of Fire Page 2 WHEEL OF ROTARY FEBRUARY 16, 1950 TODAY'S SPEAKER Our very good friend Rex Bell has been chosen by Program Chairman Ed Converse as program speaker for today. The subject of the discourse will be "Scouting", in particular with ref-erence to "The Part Adult Volunteers May Play in Scouting." In view of the fact that Rex has been President of Boulder Dam Council of Boy Scouts of America for the past two years, during which he has given freely of his time, he speaks with authority on this important subject. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * LAST Jordon Crouch, Vice-President of the First National Bank of Nevada in charge of publicity, was speaker of the day. His subject, "A Better Under-standing", was very much appropriate to the occasion, and held the close attention of the audience. This is the second appearance of Mr. Crouch before Las Vegas Rotary Club and his friendly talks have made him a favorite with us. "Sully" Sutherland last week in-troduced and properly admonished two Baby Rotarians. And a visiting Rotarian, Ed Green-well, from Ogden, Utah, with a fine Rotarian voice, sang some songs for us. We particularly enjoyed "Wyoming". And then a song by our Bob Russell, just to show that Ogden does not have all the good singers. OUR PROGRAMS Program Chairman Ed Converse is i Washington, D.C., where he plans to re main until February 26th... Incident-ally, Ed has good (as usual) programs scheduled for us for every meeting until March 9th. LAST W3EK Hardy Allen, in spite of the burglary of his store, gave out the cigars announcing the arri-va.1 of his new son. * * * And Jim Shaver says: "I notice some of the boys got quite a chuckle out of the story of the Yank Marine throwing the wrong female dog out of the train window. * * * COMING PROGRAMS Program Chairman Ed Converse has arranged for the following programs: Feb. 23rd—Visit by air of Phoenix Rotary Club, scheduled to arrive at 12:45 p.m. March 2nd—Jack Young, craft talk. Subject may be "Do I Believe in Signs?" March gth—Bernice Warner, girl scout, "International Friendship Be-gins at Home." * * * ANNUAL REPORTS District Governor Eck Heistand, is calling the attention of President Leonard and all committee chairman to the desirability of starting now to put your annual reports in shape. It is with shame and regret that Governor Eck reports that some (very WHEEL OF ROTARY P a g e 3 hope that Las Vegas will not be one to be criticized this year. VISITING ROTARIANS The following Rotarians, members of other clubs, attended our last meeting: JESSE JOHNSON Junction City, la. ED GREENWELL Ogden, Utah DOUG THOMAS Martinsburg, Va.. ANDY LATHAM LOU MEISNEB JACK HIGGINS ART KLI-NGER ANDY LATHAM (5 of 3oulder City) JORDON CROUCH Reno MAJOR SWEENEY Reno ALONZO DELKIN Arcadia, Cal. GEORGE CULL3Y Alhambra, Cal. Thanks, fellov/s. We were glad to have you with us. President Leon-ard invites you to come again, soon. NEW MEMBERS? Proposals have been presented to fill the following classifications: LAUI33RIES-FUNERAL DIRECTOR-RESTAURANTS * * * * * * * * * * * * * * LET'S GO TO NEEDLES! President Leonard has an invita-tion from Needles Rotary Club to send a delegation to its annual tri-state meeting at the Masonic Temple, Needles March 28th.... The meeting will start with a dinner promptly at 6:45, fol-lowed by a program featuring Glenn Gin, immediate Past President of Tucs-on Rotary Club.... The program should be extremely interesting because of the fact that tho speaker has just re-turned from an extended trip through ^ g h i n a . FOR DISTRICT GOVERNOR Several Rotary Clubs have pro-posed named as nominees for Dis-trict Governor of the 160 District to succeed Governor Eck Heistand, among them: West Hollywood pro-poses its past president, Jack G. Gotch.... San Marino—Past Presi-dent Edd Norwood. JIM DUUAWAY That genial Rotarian from Hawthorn, California, Jim Duna-way, plans to be with us today (probably to ca.se the coming Helldorado Parade in which he always rides). DIRECTORS TO MEET The next meeting of Direc-tors of Las Vegas Rotary- Club is shceduled for tomorrow (Friday) evening.at 7:30 at the home of Paul McDermott... All Directors and those having busi-ness with the Board, please take notice. WE DID ALL RIGHTS At the Chamber of Commerce annual election Tuesday night, 14 directors were elected, of . whom 8 were members of the Las Vegas Rotary Club, viz.: HARRY ALLEN, BOB BLONDE, LEONARD FAYLE, CARL HYDE, WALTER JOHNSON, BILL FERRON, DICK RONZONE and VERN WILLIS.... And also, another of our Rotarians, DAIL PHELPS, auto-matically is a member of the Board of Directors of the C.of C. because he is President of the Junior Cham-of Commerce.
