Los Angeles* Oct* 1* 1936 Mr, F. H* K nickerbocker: Referring to your mailgram K-361, re la tiv e to status o f construction of new w ell at Las Vegas*1 We placed a 16H diameter outer casing to a depth o f 260 f t and anchored same.in hard strata at that depth* then we d r ille d on the inside of same a 12 inch w ell o f two thickness stove pipe casing* to a depth o f 734 ft* with 68 f t . of open* uncased hole below* in cemented gravel* water bearing formation. We perforated the 12 inch casing with fiv e 1/2* by 2* holes per foot, from elevation 574 to 719, The w ell i s now flowing approximately 2,000 gallons per minute or a total o f 2*880,000 gallons per 24 hour day* In order to have this w ell in the best condition* i t should be permitted to flow without being checked* fo r a period o f some two or three months* so as to develop i t s own cavity below the casing and surrounding the perforations, in the area 574 to 719* In the meantime* we w ill in s t a ll a valve on the w ell, so we can check it s flow a fte r the w ell i s fu lly developed and not waste the water but use i t as required. We are proceeding with the laying o f the new water lin e s and in sta lla tio n of new connections at the settlin g basin and reservoir. The water i s now flowing on our own property and w ill be confined on this land fo r irrig a tio n purposes during the in terval the w ell i s developing it s e lf* Our Work Order provided fo r an estimated depth of approximately 600 fe e t, however, we did not encounter sufficien t water bearing sands u n til we had d r ille d 574 feet and i t was necessary to continue to a depth o f 802 feet* in order to penetrate the oemented gravel water bearing strata. However, we obtained a favorable price from the contractor, fo r the d r i l l ing o f this w e ll, and the additional cost of the approximate 200 feet extra depth can e a sily be taken care o f within the appropri ation* W ill give you further report a fte r we have further developed the w ell but the present indication? are we are going to have a splendid flowing w ell and we are now arranging with Mr, Leo McWamee fo r preparation o f proper papers fo r f i li n g on this water, in order to protect our rights.
