48 Las Vegas, Nevada April 22, 1947 At a regular meeting of the Board of City Commissioners held this 22nd day of April, 1947. Meeting called to order by His Honor mayor E. W. Cragin at the hour of 2 P.M. with the following members present: Commissioners Baskin, Clark, Corradetti; City Manager T. E. Fennessy; City Attorney, C. Norman Cornwall; and City Clerk, Helen Scott Reed. At this time Mayor Cragin made a report to the Board of the investigation of the Police Department and recommended that the office of Inspector of Detectives be abolished and services of Inspector Morrison, Captain Patterson, Detective Barritt, Captain Wile, and Officer Poster be terminated as of this date and that any time they are entitled to be paid them. Further that this recommendation is made for the betterment of the Police Department. Thereafter Commissioner Clark moved that the recommendation of Mayor Cragin be approved and that the City Manager be directed to carry out the order of the Board. Motion seconded by Commissioner Baskin and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Baskin, Clark, and His Honor voting aye; Commissioner Corradetti voted no and stated that the reason for his vote was that he felt that the men whom the charges concerned should have been called in at the time of the investigation. RESOLUTION— The following resolution was presented to the Board for their consideration: Transcontinental Western Air -RESOLUTION A RESOLUTION BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAS VEGAS, NEVADA, A MUNICIPAL CORPORATION, REQUESTING THE CIVIL AERONAUTICS BOARD, WASHINGTON, D. C. TO ALTER THE CERTIFICATE OF CONVENIENCE AND NECESSITY HELD BY TRANSCONTINENTAL AND WESTERN AIR, INC., ON ROUTE NO. 2, TO PERMIT THE TRANSPORTATION OF LOCAL PASSENGERS BETWEEN LAS VEGAS, NEVADA, AND LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA. WHEREAS, THE CITY COMMISSIONERS believe it in the public interest of the citizens of Las Vegas, Nevada, that additional air service be made available between Los Angeles and Southern California and the City of Las Vegas; and WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the City Commissioners and business men of the community that it is necessary to travel by automobile to Boulder City, 28 miles away, to board a TWA airplane for Los Angeles only to travel back by airplane to Las Vegas before continuing on to Los Angeles; and WHEREAS, it is essential in the development of the City of Las Vegas, Nevada and the development of its present and proposed airport facilities that the petition of Las Vegas City Commissioners for relief from the restriction imposed on TWA on local service to Los Angeles be granted; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF LAS VEGAS, NEVADA, A MUNICIPAL CORPORATION, in regular meeting: That the City Commissioners of the City of Las Vegas, Nevada, a municipal corporation, does here and now request and petition the Civil Aeronautics Board, Washington, D. C., to grant this request to alter the certificate of convenience and necessity issued to Transcontinental and Western Air, Ind., Route Nos. 2, permitting said airline to transport local passengers between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, Nevada, and in connection therewith, if necessary, do permit /s/ C. Norman Cornwall City Attorney to present on behalf of such petition, such evidence as may be material and relevant to the granting of same.
