DAVID LANGOM: Pleasure to be back here in the senate representing the Boys and Gilrls Club. Last year the Boys and Girl Club serviced 1500 kids. This year the Boys and Girl Club raised their prices. They also required the parents to pay for transportations to the club. Now parents are finding that they cannot afford to send there kids. Need people who can network with other people in the community, They also have to be able to raise funds for the university. I want to continue the support for these programs. The majority of the ambassadors are from business or hotel. I would like to do this event promoted the through plasma screens as well. VIII. EXECUTIVE BOARD ANNOUNCEMENTS VICE PRESIDENT GOATZ : we found a marketing director. My pro temp attended a leadership retreat; he was disappointed that a lot of senators did not show up. If CSUN is paying for the retreat we need to have more people showing up for it. Henry Schuck: There is a board of reagents meeting on Friday at CCSN; I encourage you all to go to meetings. Our first shuttles will be delivered on Friday. We are in process of hiring the drivers for those. We got this podium and its pretty sweet, they call it a pulpit, We are hoping to start a tradition with Buffalo Wild Wings when we have away games. We want to sponsor a bunch of wings and so the student can go watch the games and get free wings, it would cost the same to have it on campus with no free food. We are forwarding the marketing director to you. We had two applications, one of which dropped out. We are not trying to mess with you guys, we only got one candidate. I coach a water polo team on Mondays at 7 so I have to go soon. Henry Schuck tells a funny joke. SENATE PRESIDENT PRO TEMPORE MULLINAX: If you don't have a name in front of you, you have only been here for a week. SENATOR ESPINOZA, if you don't have one it is because you ate it. I'll be using the money I was allotted to buy business cards. I went to Buffalo Wild Wings and had fun and a lot of wings. There are some of the people who did there homework and know what is going on before today. Although we want to stay her for as along as we need to we use money to stay here. SENATE PRESIDENT AMESQUITA: the yahoo groups have been going good and had a good conversation with SENATOR ROTH. 3 IX. CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS A. Action Item: Approval of an amount not to exceed $2,000 for talent and production services at the February noon scene. Cost to be encumbered from the CSUN 2702 FY 05 Entertainment & Programming (Noon scene) budget. As submitted by Senator Piro on behalf of Director Arneson. Passes by unanimous acclamation B. Action Item: Approval of an amount not to exceed $8,000 for professional models, hair and make-up artists, dressers, wardrobe and event producing services for the Rebel Fashion Show. Cost to be encumbered from the CSUN 2702 FY 05 Entertainment & Programming (New Initiatives) budget. As submitted by Senator Piro on behalf of Director Arneson. SENATOR BOWERS apposes to Action item B and C being on the consent agenda. SENATOR DONNELLY motions to combine and amend action item b and c SENATOR PIRO seconds SENATOR TEMPLETON: have questions for DIRECTOR ARNESON DIRECTOR ARNESON: look at second to last page SENATOR TEMPLETON: only one person to get a modeling contract? what is eeg? DIRECTOR ARNESON: this budget is kind of rough, I just want you to approve this money, it probably wont cost that much. I want to paint an image for you guys, we are going to run the ball room to a club atmosphere. Companies are giving us quotes to turn the ball room to that atmosphere; we need these outside resources because we don't have the resource, this is all very much a sketch out plan. SENATOR ROTH: I put out my opinions on yahoo groups, personally I think it would be a good idea to postpone this item, I encourage everyone to help out with this idea. I don't think there was enough information in ahead of time for approving this item. We might be able to get more outside resources. We need all of us to work together to have this work SENATOR PIRO: DIRECTOR ARNESON is the most connected person in this town and if he says he has looked everywhere, he has. Everything that he has done has been good except movie night. We should give this a chance because we have never done this before. This is going to be a big production that we can be proud of. If this works then we can do this more if not then we don't do this again. 4 SENATOR MARAZITA: I think this is a good idea, the question that we all need to look at is does this benefit all the students. I think we should use all UNLV students, I don't think that just because it is in his budgets doesn't mean we should approve it. I w2as shocked to see this much money going to something like this. I don't think people would go to this? DIRECTOR ARNESON: I just need an approval on the money so I can research more. Amend it if you want. I'm not going to waste resources on something that I don't think is going to work. Any UNLV student has the chance to audition. SENATOR MARAZITA and DIRECTOR ARNESON argue SENATOR MARAZITA: you don't have to hire a production team? We can have people from UNLV do it. DIRECTOR ARNESON: No one asked me questions last week and now that money is involved I get all these questions. SENATOR MARAZITA: Not that many people are able to apply. SENATE PRESIDENT PRO TEMPORE MULLINAX: First of all the ram paid for it by itself, it's a new thing and we should do it, and as far as fine arts and getting students, there are very few people that will do it for free when they can get paid. How many people would go to Rebelpalazooa if it was just school bands? There isn't many people that our things go for every student. I guarantee that most my friends would go to a lecture no matter who we bring, but they might go to a fashion show. I think the art selling is a good idea. SENATOR MOSES: I think this would be an interesting event, if you had questions you should have went to the meeting, go and educate yourself before you come to this meeting. I like the art I have seen at rebel subs so I think that it is a good idea. SENATOR ESPINOZA: I think it is a good idea but I don't think we will be able to draw as many people if it is in the ball room. I think that we can find a better location. SENATOR BOWERS:... DIRECTOR ARNESON: SENATOR BOWERS: What is the overall goal of this? DIRECTOR ARNESON: it is a little bit of everything, I want to have students go to events and them leave and feel special about going to UNLV. SENATOR BOWERS :How many people go to Macy's? 5 SENATOR SORVONGSAVANH: To me this sounds like an entertainment and the UNLV fashion outreach to be able to show what they have done and for the people who want to become models it is a chance for them to get help from us. SENATOR ROTH: This was a conversation I tried to start on the yahoo groups SENATOR PIRO: We don't have a fashion college but we have a fashion department, getting a modeling contract is very hard and will benefit the student a lot. SENATOR MARAZITA: is this educational at all? Should we waste students money on a fashion show when it could help the academic community.
