Jewish Family Service Agency 1555 E. Flamingo Road, Suite 125 ? Las Vegas, Nevada 89109 ? (702) 732-0304 "Sophie, at 68, has a serious heart condition and needs medicine that take most of her Social Security check. Many months she has nothing left for groceries. Your Jewish Family Service Agency sees that Sophie regularly gets food so she never again has to make a choice between coronary pain and starvation." Dear Friend: Sophie is only one of 1,500 Southern Nevadans who depend on the Jewish Family Service Agency. That's right, 1,500 in our own community - all in need of the human services JFSA provides - with your help. "And those clients are only a fraction of the 10,000 people who contact us each year for referrals, information about community facilities, temporary emergency assistance, and sometimes just a bit of encouragement to get past a mo-mentary crisis.) Fully one third of our clients are elderly, many poor or disabled. They are alone, often in need of food, shelter and transportation. They might need help with Social Security forms and other complex documents. Many need profes-sional counseling, or someone to do their shopping, or just regular visits by trained social workers. "Aaron, 102, has been a JFSA client for three years. He has an independent spirit but is partially disabled. In the nursing home, he lost his zest for living and began to deteriorate. JFSA relocated him to a warm, comfortable family-care home where Aaron is again enjoying life in loving surroundings. JFSA sends a social worker to visit regularly, to do Aaron's shopping and discuss his needs." Jewish Family Service Agency provides food for 300 of your neighbors, transportation and shelter for nearly as many more. Some 1,000 come to us for counseling. Single parents. Couples seeking marriage counseling. Adolescents in trouble with drugs or the law, or having problems at home or school. JFSA serves them at the highest level of profes-sional care. "Samuel, 42, was erroneously diagnosed as brain damaged at birth - thus he was given no emotional or intellectual resources. Through JFSA counseling, Samuel proved himself to be a solid, responsible adult who can drive and function normally. JFSA helped Samuel get a job in Las Vegas - the first job he has ever held ? and Samuel is doing very, very well!" We sponsor parenting classes and support teen programs. We help settle new immigrants. And good news! We expect to be state-licensed early next year as an adoption Agency so we can place Jewish infants with local Jewish couples. We act as an extended family for our clients - in the best Jewish tradition. How much does it cost our clients? Our fees are based on ability to pay. The average counseling client pays just $10 per session. How does JFSA do it? With your help! These minimal fees and free services are subsidized by gifts and grants and memberships. We conduct only ONE MEMBERSHIP DRIVE per year - and it accounts for a substantial portion of the funds that make our services pos-sible. We believe that JFSA should occupy a high priority among the many community service organizations that you may support. Our operating costs are low, our volume of human services high - it's the best investment you'll ever make.
