Evaporative Coolers Are Easy to Install The sketch on page 1 illustrates the method of construction of an evaporative cooler. Notice the simplicity of construction of this type cooler. Originally evaporative coolers were developed largely by home owners and were naturally home-made. Last year several responsible manufacturers recognized the possibilities of this inexpensive cooling method and thousands of coolers were made and sold using Wagner Evaporative Cooling Fans. Whether you buy a factory made cooler, have one built by a local contractor, or elect to ‘‘build your own,” for most economical and satisfactory results, be sure that your cooler is equipped with a Wagner Evaporative Cooling Fan Assembly. The reasons why Wagner Coolin g Fan Assemblies are best for the purpose, anywhere, and at any price are discussed on other pages of this leaflet. The usual method of construction of this type of cooler is to build a window box with an excelsior or fiber mat placed in a vertical position with provisions a t the top for dripping water through the excelsior or fiber pad. Cooling is produced by drawing large volumes of air over the moist mat, thus providing active circulation o f cool air through the store or home. In order to obtain proper cooling it is necessary to circulate a sufficiently large volume of air to provide a complete change of air in the home every two to three minutes. The size of this cooling mat through which the air, enters must be large enough in area to avoid much resistance to incoming air, otherwise the efficiency and cooling effects of the fan will be greatly reduced. The amount of pad required varies with temperature and humidity conditions. Under the most unfavorable conditions, a pad of 1 square foot of area for each 100 cubic feet of air delivery of cooler per minute may be required. In drier climates a smaller pad will be satisfactory. Minimum size pad should be at least ^ square foot for each 100 cubic feet of cooler air delivery so as to result in air velocity through pads of not more than 200 cubic feet per minute. Higher velocity will tend to pick up excess moisture in the air stream. The Wagner fan should be o f large volume, slow-speed exhaust-type. A three-speed fan is best suited, as it provides second and third speeds for use after the home is cooled Mid for night use, or for use in milder weather. Im p orta n t, for satisfactory results provide an outlet at opposite side of house to allow free air movement through and out of the house. “For Your Protection Be Sure to Insist on Wagner Evaporative Cooling Fans for Your Coolers."
