I agree.Los Angeles, Oct. 17* 1922 Mr. Walter R. Bracken; Please refer to your letter of July 29th, with reference to the consumption of water at Las Vegas by the Pacific Fruit Express Company. I am now advised by Mr. Secrist that recommendation is being made in his 1923 Budget submission for authority to construct a cooling tower to be used for the circulation of water for ammonia and steam condensers, which will give the plant lower water temperatures than the present supply, the plan being to purchase such water as is required for ice manufacture, rather than to attempt to sink a well* Mr. Secrist states that the present consumption is about 500 gallons per minute for both ice manufacture and circulating water. Under the new arrangement, this would be reduced to about 50 gallons per minute. It seems to me that if authority is given for this installation, it will go a long way toward correction of the condition of which you complain— the excessive consumption of the water by the ice plant in the face of our limited supply at Las Vegas. Yours truly,
