TRIDENT CREST METERS THE Trident Crest Meters are of the velocity or inferential type in which the turbines or propellers are revolved by the flow of water through the meter at a speed directly proportional to the rate of flow. Waterworks engineers throughout the world have long recognized the Trident Crest Meters as the most accurate, durable and sensitive of the several types of turbine meters. The Trident Oil-Enclosed Gear Train is standard equipment on all Crest Meters. In no other type of meter is there greater need for a sensitive gear train provided with lubricated gears. Millions of gallons of water must be measured through these high flow turbine meters and the Trident Oil-Enclosed Gear Train—RUNNING IN OIL—has solved the one difficult problem in turbine meter design. The construction of the Compound consists of two measuring units housed in a single cast-iron casing. A regular Crest unit measures all the high rates of flow and a standard Trident Disc unit measures the small flows which cannot be accurately recorded by the large unit. A specially constructed valve, automatically controlled by the rate of flow passing through the meter, opens and closes the main conduit. Such small flows that cannot be accurately measured by the large meter are recorded on the sensitive disc meter so that all water used is measured. Trident Oil-Enclosed Gear Trains are standard equipment on all these meters, as are heat-proof removable rubber bushings in the Register and Gear Train.
