Las Vegas, Nevada REVIEW - JOURNAL September 16, 1948 October 19 Set For Water District Vote Clark county commissioners yesterday set October 19 as the date when affected residents w i l l decide on formation of the Las Vegas valley water district. On the date of the long-await-ed election, certain residents also w i l l vote for one director in their division to represent them in a board comprised from the seven divisions. Commissioners yesterday also named candidates for each of the seven divisions from a list of names proposed by the cham-ber of commerce. District Attorney Robert E. Jones said qualified voters will have two propositions to decide: One?should the water dis-trict be created?; and two??? vote for one candidate to rep-resent them in their particular division. Generally the following divis-ions w i l l be created, and voters from these divisions w i l l vote on creation of the district and for one director. These were Pitt-man, Whitney, Army air base, North Las Vegas, Las Vegas, Par-adise Valley and the highway 91 strip. Candidates named by commis-sioners to run were Harry Mil-ler and Floyd Prowell, division 1; Frank Strong, Thomas A. Camp-bell and Ryland Taylor, division 2; James Cashman and Howard Cannon, division 3; G. William Coulthard and Victor Shurtleff, division 4; Lorin Ronnow and Al Corradetti, division 5; Spencer Butterfield, Nelson Conway and H. C. Nickerson, division and John Bunch and John Stafford, division 7. Plans for the comprehensive water district were proposed to; provide an adequate water sup-ply for the county's growing pop-ulation. Under the program, the dis-trict directors would be charged with all water consumed in the area, take over the holdings of the Las Vegas Land and Water company and coordinate all serv-ices.
