WHEREAS, trade and commerce within the City of Las Vegas is affected by such property damage in that the sale in this trading area of farm products grown in Lincoln and Clark Counties would be impeded and restricted; and WHEREAS, traffic and communications to Las Vegas are affected by such floods due to the damage to highways, bridges, railroad lines, and telephone lines; and WHEREAS, the United States Congress, by Act approved May 17, 1950 (Public Law 516, 8lst Congress, 2nd Session), authorized the construction, under the direction of the Secretary of the Army and the supervision of the Chief of Engineers,of two dams in the Meadow Valley Wash drainage area, one in Pine Canyon, and the other in Mathew Canyon, in Nevada; and WHEREAS, a total of $132,000.00 has been appropriated to cover planning expenditures through fiscal year 1956; and WHEREAS, all surveys and plans for construction of Pine and Mathews Dams will be fully completed by the end of 1956; and WHEREAS, an addition $2,210,000.00 remains to be appropriated to complete the project; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the present session of the Congress be urged to proceed with securing the necessary appropriations for construction of these dams and make every effort to speed up completion of all structures concerned therewith at the earliest date possible. ADOPTED and APPROVED the 26th day of April, 1956 by the Board of Commissioners of the City of Las Vegas, Nevada.
