Office of Thk Goyrhxor Springfield Otto Kcrner Governor June 8, 1966 Mr. Herman D. Kenin, President American Federation of Musicians 69th Annual Convention Las Vegas, Nevada Dear Mr. Kenin: The State of Illinois extends its best wishes to the American Federation of Musicians, its officers and its delegates. The bearer of this letter, Mr. E. G. Komet, has shown a special interest in the furtherance of good music with his active participation in the Stage Band movement. Mr. Komet has been the superintendent of the Illi- nois State Fair Stage Band Contest since its inception in 196U. The Illinois State Fair Stage Band Contest has proven to be a very popular event at the Illinois State Fair and attracts high school bands from all of Illinois. The interest shown by these young student musicians speaks well for the art of music and the ability of these same students serves as inspiration for future students of music. As Governor of this great State of Illinois, I have personally had the pleasure of awarding tropies and prizes to eight very fine stage bands. The trophies include a permanent- possession Governor?╟╓s Trophy which is awarded each year to the outstanding stage band appearing at the Illinois State Fair. These awards will again be presented on August 12th at the Illinois State Fair.
