JFLV EOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING June 7, 1989 MINUTES PRESENT: DR. SCOTT BARANOFF ED BERNSTEIN DR. Barry Eisen cave the D'Var Torah.JFLV BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING June 7, 1989 Page 2 Dr. Marv Perer gave an update on the Campaign, which now stands at $924,934. Sandy Mallin reported on the Campaign status of the Women's Division, which is $50,000 over its goal. Guest speaker, Russel Robinson, UJA Western Region Executive Director, was introduced. UJA is celebrating its 50th year. His speech was very enlightening and enjoyed by the Board members. Dorothy Eisenberg reported on the bills presently in legislation. She stated that the "body bill" was amended and is now suitable. She further urged members of the Federation to call regarding the "hate bill." Karen Galatz reminded everyone to attend the "Passage to Freedom" June 20 at Congregation Ner Tamid. Guest speaker will be Mikhail Elbert. Ed Bernstein presented the 1989 allocations reccrrmendations. Gerald Welt made a motion to approve the recommendations and Gene Greenberg seconded the motion. After discussion with regard to the Hebrew Academy allocation.Dan Goldfarb made another motion to accept the local allocation committee reccrrmendations. It was then voted on and the motion carried. The national and international allocations reccrtmendations were then presented. Dan Goldfarb moved to accept the committee's reccmmendations, Arne Rosencrantz seconded the motion. Rabbi Lederman asked for an amendment to the allocation to include $100 to the Jewish Theological Seminary. The allocation recommendations were so amended and upon a vote of the Board the committee' s recaimendations were accepted. Sandy Mallin reported on the upcoming golf tournament to be held June 14, 1989 at the Las Vegas Country Club. Edythe Katz reported with regard to Holocaust Education that frcm September 10 to October 8, 1989 an international showing of Anne Frank World will be held at the UNLV Museum of Natural History. A reception will be held September 10. Dr. Harris Waters reported on the Health Care Division and its programs. He is hopeful in getting a medical mission together in the future. Rabbi Lederman reminded Board members of the interview of the candidate for Assistant Rabbi to be held at Temple Beth Shalcm June 16 and June 17th. Barry Eisen reported on the JFS. A new slate of officers has been elected for the coming year. He further reported that they have renegotiated their lease. Eileen Cohen from Channel 39 reported on the Shalcm TV show held Sunday 9:00 to 9:30 a.m. and urged people to watch. Melanie Greenberg reminded the Board of the Western Region Conference to be held September 17, 18 and 19 at the Alexis Park Hotel.JFLV BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING June 7, 1989 Page 3 Norman Seigenberg of the Jewish War Veterans reported on the Memorial Day Services.
